Premiering Friday, February 16 at 7.30pm on Channel Nine
Some of the world’s legendary comedians will be celebrated in a new retrospective series, Kings of Comedy, which premieres Friday, February 16 at 7.30pm on Channel Nine.
Hosted by Colin Lane, of the late great comedy duo Lano & Woodley, this one-hour program features a collection of archived routines performed on Channel Nine programs over the last five decades.
Famous comedians in the six-part series include the Irish superstar who dominated British television, Dave Allen; the hilarious Two Ronnies, Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbett; the iconic team of Peter Cook and Dudley Moore; Australia’s king of television, Graham Kennedy; Hale and Pace; deadpan US comic Steven Wright; legendary Australian performer Rolf Harris; pop parody group The Hee Bee Gee Bees; and the forefather of American improvisation, Shelley Berman.
In a celebration of Kennedy’s immense impact on Australian television, the first episode – on the day after his birthday – contains three contributions from the inimitable larrikin of laughs.
Following on from the successful Kings of Comedy special last year, footage for the series has been collated from a number of specials, series and variety show sketches filmed in the studios of TCN-9 and GTV-9 from the 1960s to the 1990s.
Host Colin Lane said: “It’s fantastic to think that after all these years the skills of these classic performers have not diminished their relevance or impact. It’s great to see such acts finding a new audience in 2007.”
