Precinct Lieutenant Anita Van Buren Controversial speaker Judith Barlow is hosting a political rally at Grammercy College when dissent erupts in the audience, the stage is mobbed and student Jason Miles is shot and killed. Detectives Cassady and Van Buren think Barlow was the intended target, while detective Green wonders if someone wanted Jason dead and used the rally as cover.

Jason’s girlfriend Kirsten and friend Malcolm Yates tell the detectives they were watching TV together the night Jason was murdered, but a hole in their story is soon exposed, and Kirsten is caught lying to cover for Yates.

The character Judith Barlow is meant to represent Ann Coulter who The National Enquirer dubbed ‘The Most Hated Woman in America’ in 2006. Coulter, a conservative political activist, gained a reputation for being biased against gays, minority groups and liberals.
