The most prestigious event on the world tennis calendar begins Monday, June 23 when Channel Nine exclusively presents the free-to-air coverage of Wimbledon 2008, with action running right through to the men’s singles final on Sunday, July 6.
Ken Sutcliffe will again host Nine’s coverage from London, with expert commentary from Wimbledon greats John Newcombe, Fred Stolle and Mark Woodforde (a trio who won 21 Wimbledon titles) as well as former tennis professional Kerryn Pratt, with feature stories and interviews from Tim Sheridan.
All eyes will be on world number one Roger Federer as he vies for his sixth consecutive Wimbledon title – a feat achieved only once, way back in the 1880s by W.C. Renshaw. Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Andy Roddick and Lleyton Hewitt will be among the men serving it up to the Swiss maestro who has already won 12 grand slam tournaments.
In the women’s draw, new world number one and French Open champion Ana Ivanovic is favourite to take the title, but she has to overcome Maria Sharapova as well as the Williams sisters Serena and Venus – with Venus defending her 2007 Wimbledon crown.
