Eighties night with Cyndi Lauper S06E16

A lot of good things came out of the eighties and particularly the music. Most of tonight’s contestants weren’t even around in the eighties so will be making up for it by living the eighties tonight on the Australian Idol stage.

Tonight, Cyndi Lauper Cyndi Lauper is guest judging after mentoring the Top 11 over the last week. Tomorrow night Cyndi will perform before another contestant is sent homw.

Luke Dickens
John Mellencamp - Words & Music: John Mellencamp's Greatest Hits - Jack & Diane Jack & Diane

Great sing-a-long song to kick off the show. Not really too much of a vocal stretch but a good feel good number to get us started.

Brooke Addamo
Andrew Sixty, Joe Yellow, Sonia Davis & Tom Tom - Italo Disco (Vuelve el Spaghetti, Lo Mejor de la Musica de los 80s) - Betty Davis Eyes Betty Davis Eyes
Voting Details

Brooke has the potential to do really well in Idol as she is showing some pretty good versatility and is growing each week. She’s certainly getting stronger on the stage and looks fantastic.

Madam Parker
Diana Ross - Diana - Upside Down Upside Down
Voting Details

Madam really suits these dancy songs and made that seem really effortless. The only thing missing really was a little more energy. We might have to put that down to having a cold for most of the week.

Mark Spano
Foreigner - Complete Greatest Hits - I Want to Know What Love Is I Want to Know What Love Is
Voting Details

Perfect song for Mr Spano but his performances are all starting to look the same. Find a spot on the stage, hunch over and look like you’re evacuating your bowels, move to another spot and repeat the process.

Tom Williams
Billy Joel - Greatest Hits, Volume I & Volume II - Uptown Girl Uptown Girl
Voting Details

How many girls will be claiming Tom was just singing to them? A little pitchy in places but I hardly doubt that is going to see him gone this week. Dicko and Kyle really didn’t really like it and grill him for it.

Chrislyn Hamilton
Cyndi Lauper - True Colors - True Colors True Colors
Voting Details

Everything about this performance was perfect. The arrangement was gorgeous and Chrislyn bought an incredible amount of emotion to the stage. That could well have been one of the best performances we’ve ever seen on the Australian Idol stage.

Teale Jakubenko
U2 - U218 Singles - I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For

What a fantastic vocal performance. A truly great song and it sounded really good and shouldn’t see him in the bottom three this week after that. Definitely agree with Dicko that it was a huge step up on his passed performances.

Sophie Paterson
Eurythmics - Eurythmics: Greatest Hits - Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)

Great song, pitchy delivery. I’m still mystified as to how Sophie made it this far in the compeition. Sophie sucks the energy out of every song she sings and that was no exception.

Wes Carr
Bruce Springsteen - Bruce Springsteen - Greatest Hits - Dancing In the Dark Dancing in the Dark
Voting Details

Another great song which Wes is owning while playing his acoustic guitar and performing like a pro. That was a fairly spirited performance by a very seasoned professional.

Ricki-Lee’s new single Ricki-Lee - Wiggle It - EP - Wiggle It Wiggle It is out now!

Roshani Priddis
Tina Turner - Private Dancer - What's Love Got to Do With It What’s Love Got to Do With It
Voting Details

Another classic 80′s anthem. Roshani has a powerful voice for someone so small and really proves why she is in the Top 11. Great vocal performance.

Thanh Bui
The Police - Synchronicity - Every Breath You Take Every Breath You Take
Voting Details

Thanh is fairly solid but there was still a bit of sugar on it which I really didn’t think suited that song.

Bottom three is tough tonight as it was a pretty good show. However, Sophie Paterson definitely deserves to be there. Luke Dickens and Mark Spano are likely to be the other two.
