ABC1’s week of sizzling tennis action continues with the number 2 seeded team Russia, (Marat Safin and Dinara Safina) playing 5th seed Italy, (Flavia Pennetta and Simone Bolelli) in session 2 of Hopman Cup XXI today.
Australia’s hopes rest with former world number 1 Lleyton Hewitt, partnered by rising star Casey Dellacqua who play Germany, (Sabine Lisicki and Nicolas Kiefer) in session 3 on Monday 5 January.
The Hopman Cup is the official Mixed Teams Championship of the International Tennis Federation, and has come to be regarded as the world’s most prestigious invitational tournament. It is a round robin, consisting of two groups of four teams where all teams play each other once with the winners of each group progressing to the Final.
The Hopman Cup XXI is broadcast live on ABC1 from Saturday 3 January culminating in the Hopman Cup Final screening at 8.30pm (delayed) on Friday 9 January, 2009.
