It’s Jo’s (Raquel Cassidy) fortieth birthday and she asks Danny (Matt Smith) and Kirsty (Andrea Riseborough) to organise an intimate dinner for close friends.
But Kirsty has a better idea. She sees this as a chance to launch her political career with a spot of power networking. Fuelled by his infatuation with Kirsty, Danny allows himself to be persuaded that Jo’s ‘keep it small’ request, is actually female code for ‘make it a big night and invite everyone I’ve ever known’. They start organising a party to remember…
Lobbyist Scott moves back into the main game at work, helping prevent a wealthy Russian client, Peter Zaslavsky (Richard Atlee) from being extradited. But he bites off more than he can chew and resorts to increasingly desperate measures to get himself out of trouble.
Danny tries to convince Scott that he’s not utterly besotted by Kirsty and fixes up an internet date. It starts promisingly, but ends in a trademark Danny disaster.
At Jo’s party, worlds collide when Scott turns up to celebrate having extricated himself from Zaslavsky forever. As Danny comforts a drunken and tearful Jo after her husband storms out of the party, Kirsty seeks out Scott for a variety of comforts.
What Danny doesn’t know, can’t hurt him. But how long will their liaison stay secret?
