The Oldest Contestant In TEN’s 2009 Series Of The Biggest Loser Takes The Title Followed By Daughter-In-Law Tiffany Herdsman
Two Records Broken As Bob Loses The Most Amount Of Weight In Australian Biggest Loser History And Tiffany Loses The Largest Percentage Of Weight From A Female
Bob Herdsman, 57 years from WA, has tonight been announced 2009′s Biggest Loser having lost an incredible 87.6 kg – over half of his total starting weight of 167.8 kg. Bob took the title weighing in at 80.2 kg making Australian Biggest Loser history and winning the $200,000 prize money.
A roadhouse café owner from Stratham in WA and the oldest contestant in the series, Bob proved that age is no barrier as he defeated nineteen fellow contestants and broke further Biggest Loser records losing the most amount of weight in a week five times throughout the series.
Runner up for the title was Bob’s 27 year-old daughter-in-law Tiffany Herdsman who weighed in at 47.62% less than her starting weight of 113.6kg, with whom he entered the show for Loser’s first Couples series.
Bob says of his victory, “I never set out to beat anybody, but to conquer myself. There’s no doubt it was tough but I knew that I had to do it – this was almost the last chance I had to get my life back. I feel so different – I’m fit, I’m healthy, I’m light and it feels absolutely fantastic. It’s not about how I look; it’s about how I feel.
“Neither Tiffany or I thought we’d be here this long and it’s incredible that we were able to finish as a family.
“I’ll be going back to our business when I get home but am looking forward to a lot more outdoor activities like kayaking with my son. I’ll upgrade my diving gear so my wife and I can go scuba diving and mountain bike riding as well which I started to really enjoy throughout my time on Loser. These are things that I haven’t been able to do for so long because of the obesity. “The mantra that got me through whenever things got tough was Yoda’s ‘do or do not, there is no try’. My family are massive Star Wars fans and we’ll be celebrating our victory on May 4 with a ‘May the 4 Be With You party!”
