A clear view on Freeview

As Australia begins to switch from analogue to digital television broadcasting, the Australian free-to-air broadcasters have joined forces to create Freeview.

Freeview is the brand name for the collection of digital television channels from Australia’s free-to-view networks (ABC, SBS, 7, NINE,TEN, WIN, Prime and Southern Cross). Freeview is the free-to-view digital television service providing Australian television viewers more choice than ever before. It isn’t any one channel or service – rather it is a suite of channels.

Freeview recently launched both a major ad campaign and Freeview-endorsed digital TV equipment that is now available at leading retailers around the country to encourage Australians to switch to free-to-view digital television.

Freeview gives you more channels and more moments, for free. Freeview provides all the current network channels (ABC1, SBS1, 7, NINE and TEN) plus exciting new digital only channels that will launch progressively over the next year. So, you’ll get more of what you love, for free.

The first of these include Network Ten’s new ONE channel, ABC2 and SBS2 which are available now along with 7HD and 9HD.

Over the coming year, TV viewers will have even more channels – without having to pay ongoing costs or subscription fees.

And because Freeview channels are digital, you get a better viewing experience: brilliant picture and superior sound.

To get Freeview channels, you will need either a digital high definition TV with a built-in tuner or a digital set top box that is capable of receiving high definition signals.  If you already have one of these, you’re ready to go.

Look out for products labelled with a Freeview logo at leading electronic retailers when purchasing equipment. Your electronics retailer will be able to show you the different features to help you with your purchase.
