MasterChef Australia: Elimination 14 - Tom Mosby

Tom Mosby, 39
Solicitor

Back in the competition for just a day, Tom was re-eliminated from MasterChef Australia after fighting it out on a pressure test against Sam.

Tom and Sam found themselves in the bottom two following a challenge at HMAS Kanimbla. The contestants were tasked with cooking lunch for 200 hungry sailors on board the ship.

This time it was up to the sailors not the judges to cast their votes. Justine’s lamb shanks were voted top, and Tom’s chicken curry and Sam’s prawn pasta were the least favourite dishes.

Going into the pressure test Tom said: “I can prove to the judges that putting me back in this competition was the right decision. I’m going to try my hardest to make sure that I get through. I want to win.”

“Nine times in elimination” Sam laughed, “it’s got to be a running joke. I’ve done this competition the hard way. My approach is to stay positive about the whole thing. You have to make the most of it and do your best.”

Tonight their task was to decipher the 20 ingredients in George’s mother’s special moussaka – and all through taste.

They reached ten ingredients and on the eleventh ingredient Tom guessed wrongly with the herb thyme

“I’m disappointed because I think I’ve let myself down, and perhaps I’ve let the judges down as well. I thank the judges for bringing me back. I came in thinking even if I’m here for a day just having had that opportunity and the recognition from the judges, I really appreciate that and it gives me a lot of confidence.”

“It’s unfortunate I couldn’t prove that I am capable in this competition but I wish Sam well, and Sam – keep dodging those eliminations.”

Matt Preston said: “the reason we brought you back is that we know you have those capabilities, so take that away with you. Tom, keep tasting, keep enjoying.”

Back at the house Chris said: “I have a feeling Sam is going to come back – he’s like Teflon! But I think that Sam actually deserves to be here. He’s made it this far.”

Julie said: “Sam has gone through nine eliminations and is still standing. I’d say he’s a pretty unsinkable ship. He’s just had his ninth life!”
