The Finale of Masterchef Australia is over! An expected 3 million or so viewers have watched.
Each contestant was scored on each round, adding up to a total of 100 points. The one with the most was to be announced Australia’s first Masterchef.
The first round worth 20 points was the ingredient taste test where Julie and Poh had to identify ingredients in a Beef Burgandy made by Gary.
Both Poh and Julie faultered on Port as an ingredient. Julie won round 1 with 12 points, ahead of Poh’s 11.
Round 2 was out of 40 points, with the three regular judges as well as the guest judge Curtis each scoring the dishes out of 10. The challenge was an invention test, with a whole chicken as the core ingredient.
Julie won this challenge. The score was then 46 Julie, 44 Poh.
Round 3 was the pressure test with a chocolate dish prepared by celebrity chef Mat Moran. Julie struggled to plate up in the final seconds as the judges counted down the last seconds New Years Eve style. But she presented a dish, as Poh did that was very much like Mat Morans’.
Again the 4 judges scored out of 10. With Poh already 2 behind, Poh needed 3 to win over Julie.
And then the final result.
Poh: 75 (31 for round 3)
Julie: 82 (36 for round 3)
The winner for the first Masterchef Australia is: Julie!!!
And boy does she look shocked – the home cook from the Central Coast did it!!!
