9:30pm – Monday, September 28 on Channel Nine
After nearly spilling her secret to Grayson, Jane is approached by Claire Porter, a mother looking to sue a diet guru whose drastic weight loss plan has caused heart problems in her teenage daughter, Hannah. Claire insists that the Jillian Ford diet relies on false advertising, but Hannah remains steadfastly committed to it, despite its dangerous side effects. So when Jillian refuses to include a warning on her products, Jane heads to court. Meanwhile, as Fred’s sudden disappearance and everyone else’s collective amnesia about his ever having worked at the firm puzzles Jane, Grayson defends Kim when a former assistant sues her for sexual harassment.
After quickly turning the case into a referendum on Claire’s fitness as a mother, Jillian’s lawyer calls Jane as a witness and produces an old TV commercial that features a younger Jane Bingum enthusiastically endorsing the diet plan that she now says is dangerous. Embarrassed that she didn’t remember having made the commercial, Jane consults her doctor, who fills in the details about her sad history with radical weight loss schemes. Meanwhile, hobbled by Kim’s reputation as a difficult boss, Grayson sends Teri to find a former assistant who will testify on Kim’s behalf. And just as Jane is about to tell Grayson the truth about who she really is, Teri interrupts to say that she’s uncovered a problem with Adam Bay’s lawsuit against Kim.
Although Parker wants to settle, Teri and Grayson reveal that Bay lifted his story virtually word for word from another lawsuit against an attorney at a firm where he used to work. After Jane calls Jillian to the stand and proves that she relied on radical bypass surgery, and not her own products, to stay thin, Hannah is convinced that the Ford diet is a fraud. Finally, after learning that Fred’s budding romance with Stacy resulted in his being summoned back to his celestial headquarters, Jane is stunned to see Kim thanking Grayson for saving her job – with a passionate kiss.
