A new children’s game show with a twist

Pyramid is Nine’s fast-paced new word play game show, hosted by Shura Taft of Kids’ WB, in which two teams take part in a testing competition of “vocal charades”.

It’s a laugh a minute as the players strive to describe a series of simple objects, places or things without actually using the names of the objects. Even though the right word might be on the tip of their tongue, it’s the one thing that can’t leave their lips.

The show is based on a hugely successful overseas format which has won nine Emmy Awards and proven popular with all age groups. While adapted for a younger audience, the new version still promises to appeal to parents and grandparents alike.

Pyramid is played on an imposing pyramid-shaped game board made up of six wide-screen televisions which reveal words and categories to the players. One player describes words from a screen, while a team mate must guess six answers within a 30-second time limit. Players rotate to complete three rounds of six categories, and more than 100 answers later the team with the most points faces the final pyramid game board for their chance to win prizes.

Each team is joined by a guest celebrity player from the music, sports or entertainment world who will help players win points at various stages in the game. Celebrity guests set to test their own word-play powers on Pyramid include Roshani and Paulini (singers), Emily Seebohm and Lara Davenport (Olympic swimmers), Ky Hurst (elite athlete), James Horwill (Wallaby player), Heidi Valkenburg (Kids’ WB co-host), Jessica Napier (McLeod’s Daughters), Blair McDonough (Sea Patrol), Charli Delaney (ex Hi-5) and The Shak’s Nitro and Curio.

Pyramid is a Queensland partnership production between Channel Nine and the Sydney-based production company, Ambience Entertainment. The program is filmed in front of a lively studio audience of primary school children and will draw in viewers of all age groups with its energetic and youthful format, engaging personalities, light-hearted banter and exciting game play.

Pyramid will go to air on Nine at 4.00pm Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and midday on Saturday.

This is the worst kids show I’ve ever had the displeasure to see. What room full of lazy, unimaginative producers thought that kids playing a diluted form of charades was a good idea?

At one point I saw a category for body parts that just consisted of some High 5′er pointing at various points of her body and the kid guessing the answer. Where’s the challenge or entertainment?

“An imposing pyramid-shaped game board”. It looks like a papier machet pyramid of mediocrity.

    An absolute embarrassment.

Does anyone know a way to enter the competition? Just wondering… it’s not the best show, I agree Colin, but my brother and I think we could do a lot better.

Well I was lucky enough to go on this show. This show has been filmed earlier this year and woulnt be done again. You have to be 11 or 12 to go on and have to be in a state school in queensland. You teahcers chose if they wanted you to go to the school try outs and people from the channel 9 studio come and chose you. You would have have to be in grade 6 or 7 in a state school in brisbane!!!!!! sorry this was only a offer for school children in queensland
