Amazing Race Back on TV, But Seven Still not showing Latest Season.

Fans of Amazing Race will be happy to know that season 10 is currently playing on pay TV channel Arena – but they will either need to PVR or IQ it or be up late to see the show.

The tenth season of Amazing Race started on Monday night at 1.30am (Tuesday morning, technically) and continues each weekday morning at 1.30am (which means it is NOT on Friday night/Saturday morning for example). This offering of Amazing Race comes without any promotion, and is not repeated at any other time (other than airing two hours later on ARENA+2).

There are 13 episodes in season 10, which means the conclusion should air at 1.30am Thursday April 22.

But wait – there is more.

Now being promoted on Arena, is another season of Amazing Race – set to premiere on Arena at 6.30pm Saturday nights. This is completely separate to the 1.30am offerings of season 10 as it is in fact, season 13, which was run late 2008.

Seen previously on Seven, both Amazing Race replays give reality fans a chance to watch them again, or new Amazing Race fans to view past seasons as hardly any of them are available to buy on DVD.

Late last year, Arena showed season 12 of Amazing Race on Saturday nights. Meanwhile, Seven were airing season 15 on Thursday nights which the network fast tracked so as only to be a few weeks behind the US. Seven also showed season 14 mid year – but that was many months behind the original US air dates.

7TWO showed season 9 of Amazing Race daily at 1pm during December 2009 – which meant there was a brief moment that three seasons – 9,12 and 15 were on TV concurrently – albeit on three different channels

Now with Arena showing season 10 at 1.30am weekdays and season 13 at 6.30pm Sundays, that means there will be two season on at once again, but on the same channel.

This all begs the question – what of the latest season – season 16 – which has been airing in the US since February? Seven have the rights, but are yet to put it to air. So far, in the Amazing Races’ previous time slot of 9.30pm Thursdays, they have shown repeats of Thank God You’re Here and are about to return Flashforward to that same time slot.

If 2009 is anything to go by, it is likely that Seven won’t air season 16 of Amazing Race until mid year, perhaps once Flashforward is done for the its season.

But then again, with the volatility of ratings these days, and networks making last minute changes at the drop of a hat, Seven may opt to bring Amazing Race 16 in the mix sooner, rather than later.

And later in the year, there will be Amazing Race 17.

Note – all times for Arena are Eastern Standard times which may vary in other time zones. All times on Arena are also available on Arena+2 two hours later.
