From 9.30am on Good Friday morning through until midnight last night Channel Seven Melbourne broadcast the annual telethon live from Etihad Stadium. A combined daytime and evening audience in Melbourne saw 485,000 viewers tune in to enjoy this much loved Victorian appeal. Victorians gave generously to the Good Friday Appeal raising a record total for the Royal Children’s Hospital.
A host of Seven personalities donated their time. visting children at the hospital, manning phones in the busy phone room and signing autographs for hundreds of people who had travelled to Etiham Stadium to join the days activities.
Home and Away stars AXLE WHITEHEAD, ADA NICODEMOU, ESTHER ANDERSON, JAY LAGA’AIA, LYNNE McGRANGER, TESSA JAMES and Packed To The Rafters family members ERIK THOMSON, MICHAEL CATON, GEORGE HOUVARDAS, ANGUS McLAREN, HUGH SHERIDAN and JESSICA McNAMEE spent time chatting to children at the Royal Children’s Hospital raising some smiles in the morning and throughout the day and night appeared on panels reading out donations.
Hosting panels in the studio were; PETER MITCHELL, SANDY ROBERTS, GEOFF COX, DAVID KOCH, MELISSA DOYLE, GRANT DENYER, BRUCE MCAVANEY and PETER HELLIAR.
MARK BERETTA, MICHAEL FELGATE and REBECCA MADDERN kept viewers across the tally on the Country tally board, while Good Friday Ambassador JENNIFER KEYTE was on hand to accept fundraising cheques and HAMISH McLACHLAN reported from the phone room which was staffed by over 600 wonderful volunteers.

The evening telecast featured live performances by DAMIEN LEITH, VANESSA AMOROSI and JON STEVENS.
Channel Seven’s first Good Friday Appeal telethon was in 1957, soon after television was introduced in Australia.
