Two new shows premiering on FOX8 in May

FOX8 is spicing up its Sunday night lineup from May 2 with the Australian premieres of two hot new shows – GOT TO DANCE and 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU.

At 6.30pm on Sunday May 2, FOX8 will be premiering GOT TO DANCE, a new reality show from the UK featuring Australia’s Adam Garcia as judge.

GOT TO DANCE is the ultimate dance competition and is open to group acts and individuals of any age, in any style of dance.  The series is hosted by Davina McCall, with Kimberly Wyatt and Ashley Banjo joining Garcia on the judging panel.

Garcia’s career in dance, film and theatre began in 1992 on the Australian tour of Hot Shoe shuffle. He’s starred in London’s West End in Grease, Saturday Night Fever (for which he earned an Olivier Award nomination) and Wicked.  In 2000, Garcia performed at the opening ceremony of the Sydney Olympic Games and starred in the film Bootmen – the story of the dance troupe, Tap Dogs, which he co-founded. Other movie roles include Coyote Ugly, Riding In Cars With Boys and Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen.  His TV roles include Britannia High, Mister Eleven and Dr Who.

Then at 7.30pm on Sunday May 2 comes the Australian premiere of 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU, a half-hour, single-cam series inspired by the 1999 hit movie of the same name.

The Stratford sisters, Bianca (Meaghan Martin) and Kat (Lindsey Shaw), are two very different people, which is evident as they start at their new high school with very contradictory goals. Kat is a cool strong-willed, in-your-face feminist who is looking to save the world and get out of high school as fast as she can. Bianca is a social butterfly whose only concern is that she is popular, at any cost. As they both start a bumpy year at Padua High, can each girl get what she wants in the end, as they navigate the popular crowd, boys and their over-protective dad?

Gil Junger, who directed the movie, has returned to executive produce the show’s first several episodes, and the weekly series is executive-produced by Carter Covington (“Greek”).  Larry Miller will also reprise his role as Walter Stratford, the girls’ over-protective father.  Ethan Peck takes on the role of resident bad boy Patrick Verona (originated by Heath Ledger in the 1999 film).

10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU received strong reviews when it launched in the US on ABC Family, and was the network’s number one comedy series debut on record in Total Viewers.
