
Australian actor Matt Newton has been selected as the new host of The X Factor.
It has been announced the Underbelly star and son of noted TV personality Bert Newton will take on the role of host of the new Seven series, which began filming in Perth yesterday.
Newton, who played Kiwi drug king Terry Clarke in Underbelly: A Tale of Two Cities, has recently left a rehab clinic in Melbourne where he received treatment.
“I’m extremely honoured to be given this opportunity,” Newton said.
“I’m up for new things and going on a fresh journey. I think it’s really exciting.”
Newton will join Natalie Imbruglia, Ronan Keating, Guy Sebastian and Kyle Sandilands on the talent show which returns to Aussie screens after a previous attempt on Ten.
