Kim Hollingsworth’s ex-boyfriend Michael has evolved into a threatening stalker, forcing Kim to turn to her police friends who ensure that Michael will never bother her again. On the pretext of checking the security of her apartment, Constable Les visits Kim and demands sex as reward for taking care of her ex. Kim bravely and creatively dispatches him and reports the incident to Internal Affairs. The news gets back to her friend Constable Andrew, who deserts her for ‘dobbing in’ a cop. Things don’t get any better when Kim finally reaches breaking point when her friend and fellow ‘working girl’ Wanda is found dead. Having attained her HSC through correspondence, Kim enrols at the Goulburn Police Academy, determined to change her life.
As if harassment and sexual discrimination weren’t enough, Debbie Locke begins to suffer pregnancy discrimination from her Fraud Squad colleagues. The death threats are the last straw, Debbie clears her desk during the night, photocopying evidence of corruption and taking her duty book. Debbie then joins forces with husband Greg Locke and politician John Hatton in agitating for a royal commission into the NSW police force, changing the course of history.
Frustrated by the indolence, corruption and his own inability to tackle drug dealing as a uniformed officer, Joe Dooley leaves Kings Cross Police and applies for the detective’s course at Goulburn Academy.
