Live Tennis Back On Nine.

The French Open is one of the big four tennis tournaments that make up the Grand Slam. It has been shown live on Fox Sports 3/3HD, with only one hour nightly highlights on Nine who has the free to air rights.

Last night, 7th seeded Australian Samantha Stosur won over the number one seeded Serena Williams in a match that went for three sets, where both players served for the game a few times. The end result was 6-2, 6-7, 8-6. On Nine’s one hour highlights show last night (June 2) though, the match was not even covered. The coverage – running 15 minutes late thanks to Hey Hey finishing late earlier in the night - made mention of the Stosur Vs Williams match but not who had won. By 1am on Fox Sports 3/3HD, we not only had seen Stosur win against Williams, but also Jankovic win her match meaning she will play Stosur tonight (June 3).

Now that Stosur has moved in the semis against Jankovic – who is seeded number 4 – Nine has decided to show that game live, scheduled to run from 11.15pm. That means – and rightly so – that normal programming will be pushed aside – with Nightline not on, and the late night Footy shows (NRL in Melbourne, AFL in Sydney and Brisbane) pushed to air after the tennis.

A win tonight will see Stosur into the finals and a big boost for tennis in Australia. Imagine if she wins the French Open! She’d be the first Australian to win in the women’s singles since Margeret Court in 1973.

See the tennis LIVE on Nine tonight (June 3) from about 11.15pm and Fox Sports 3 / 3HD. The Fox Sports coverage starts at 10pm covering other matches as well.
