8:30pm – Tuesday, July 13 on ABC2
Paul Billerton (Toby Kebbell) recently moved into a bed-sit on the street. Paul works as a gardener in local parks and, with no friends, spends his spare time alone.
However, Paul has taken a shine to local girl, Kirsty (Robyn Addison), whom he passes daily on the street.
One morning courage is plucked up and they arrange a date.
Their awkward relationship begins but during a fleetingly intimate moment Paul confides to Kristy that he is carrying a terrible secret that he cannot share. Although clearly consumed with guilt and remorse he resolutely refuses to elaborate. Forming a loving relationship seems beyond Paul, and it is not long before he compels Kirsty to leave him. Paul is alone again and in pain.
On his way home one night, Paul catches sight of a woman and runs away, scared. Back home, Paul starts consuming a cocktail of whisky and paracetamol, wishing his life away. The doorbell rings and Jean, (Jodhi May) the woman he ran away from is there.
A meeting between Jean and Paul through a gap in the door leads to a disturbing journey to the heart of Paul’s dark secret which ends with his redemption and starts with their reconciliation.
