One of the many rumours surrounding Packer’s share raid on Ten is that he plans to drop ONE HD in favour of an alternative digital channel including the free to air broadcast of Sky News.
The ACCC are said to be investigating this idea on the basis that Packer has stakes in Foxtel and therefore Fox Sports which ONE HD competes directly against, and thereby attracts some viewers that would otherwise be tuning into Fox Sports.
The move to axe ONE HD would remove a major player in the sports broadcast market.
Ten executive chairman Nick Falloon has welcomed Packer’s purchase of an 18% stake in Ten’s business.
