Mike and Molly premieres February 9 on Nine

From the creator of Two and a Half Men and The Big Bang Theory comes Mike and Molly, a new comedy about two working-class individuals in Chicago who find love at an Overeaters Anonymous meeting.

Officer Mike Biggs (Billy Gardell – My Name Is Earl) is a good-hearted cop who sincerely wants to lose weight. His partner, Officer Carl McMillan (Reno Wilson – Transformers), is a thin, fast-talking wise-guy who, despite his teasing, encourages Mike on the road to slimness and romance.

Mike faces ongoing temptation at the diner that he and Carl frequent, where they’ve become friends with Senegalese waiter Samuel (Nayambi Nyambi – Law and Order) to whom dieting is a foreign concept.

At an OA meeting Mike finds Molly Flynn (Melissa McCarthy – Gilmore Girls), an instantly likeable fourth-grade teacher with a good sense of humour about her shape. For Molly, focusing on smart choices isn’t easy while living with her sexy older sister Victoria (Katy Mixon – Two and a Half Men) and their mother Joyce (Swoosie Kurtz – Nurse Jackie). Both flaunt their effortless figures while indulging their healthy appetites in front of her.

In the first episode Mike struggles as he starts on yet another new diet. Molly sympathises with Mike as she hears him talking at OA and invites him to speak to her school class, where things don’t go quite to plan after he gets ambushed with confrontational questions from the kids. Luckily for Mike, they meet again when Molly’s house is robbed a few days later and he is the cop called out to investigate.

Mike and Molly found each other in the most unexpected of places. Now they’re about to find out where their quest for companionship will take them.

Mike & Molly: Premieres Wednesday, February 9, at 8.00pm on Channel Nine
