Adam Hills meets Carl Barron, Jessica Mauboy and Lauren Jackson this week

It’s “awards season” and Adam Hills in Gordon Street Tonight is going to the movies.  What with the Grammys, the BAFTAs and the Oscars on the way, Adam has asked the audience to bring in something they’ve won and Hannah Gadsby finds some gems.

Comedian Carl Barron cracks us up with the things grandparents say, and explains how his country upbringing shaped his career; Olympic basketballer Lauren Jackson chats about her international career, being bullied at school, and lets us into some secrets about the physical tussles on the court.

Jon Toogood, lead singer of NZ band Shihad, takes to the stage to perform his version of the Australian Crawl classic, Reckless; and comedian Stephen K. Amos ‘phones it in’ from London.

Jessica Mauboy, who shot to fame on Australian Idol and has since taken Australia by storm, talks about growing up in Darwin, getting just a little bit raunchy with Snoop Dog, and performs her latest single ‘What Happened to Us’.

We follow up with last week’s speed dating couple Susan and Dave; The Royal Australian Airforce band make a surprise appearance and Dave O’Neil ambushes a live theatre performance to give an audience member an acting experience he’ll never forget.

And, what awards night would be complete without some awards – Adam introduces The Gordies!

Adam Hills in Gordon St Tonight screens Wednesday February 23 at 8.30pm on ABC1, and is repeated Saturday February 26 at 7.30pm on ABC2.
