Every week RPA – Where are They Now? goes inside the lives of four courageous patients on a life-changing journey after treatment at Sydney’s Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
On Wednesday, March 9, at 9.30pm on Channel Nine we revisit Johanna to see how she is coping as a young mother who underwent life-threatening surgery at the age of 20. RPA also learns how far John has come after complications to remove cancer from his oesophagus, looks back on Maxine and her new family, and checks in on brave Kwee, whose fall couldn’t stop him from celebrating his 100th birthday.
Johanna
A routine medical test for Johanna in 2009 revealed something far from the ordinary. Doctors discovered a huge mass on her liver and as a result the young mother faced surgery without knowing what the outcome would be. Nearly two years on her bravery is nothing short of inspirational.
John
Last year viewers were taken on a rollercoaster ride when John suffered complications after an operation to remove cancer of the oesophagus. He survived against all odds and a year down the track has an incredible story to tell.
Maxine
Maxine came to RPA 31 weeks pregnant with twins and in a dangerous predicament. The babies had separate umbilical cords and were in danger of becoming entangled. Now, nearly two years later, Maxine finds herself in a very different predicament.
Kwee
Kwee arrived in Emergency by ambulance after falling down stairs. He informed the doctors he was about to turn 100 and then showed everyone how incredibly robust he is – insisting he just wanted to go home. RPA tracks Kwee down for his 100th birthday.
