W premieres Ken Follett's The Pillars of the Earth

FOXTEL’s W channel will present the Australian television premiere of The Pillars of the Earth mini-series, over four successive nights, starting Tuesday, April 26 at 8.30pm AEST.

The Pillars of the Earth is an eight hour television event based on Ken Follett’s novel, which has sold more than 14 million copies and been published in 30 languages.

Starring Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Andrew Macfadyen, Eddie Redmayne, Hayley Atwell and Donald Sutherland, this is an enduring love story set against the backdrop of the building of a great cathedral and the religious and political turmoil of 12th century England.

Produced by Tandem Communications, MUSE Entertainment and Ridley and Tony Scott’s SCOTT FREE Films, the mini-series was shot on location in Hungary and Austria.

“With its remarkable production values and stellar cast, The Pillars of the Earth enhances W’s reputation as a home for quality Australian and international dramas and we are proud to premiere the mini-series commercial-free,” said channel manager Penny Win.

The Pillars of the Earth is a tale of good and evil, treachery and intrigue, violence and beauty, entwining the lives and loves of its characters: Waleran (McShane) the ambitious bishop, Tom (Sewell) the master builder, Philip (Macfadyen) the prior of Kingsbridge, Aliena (Atwell) the noblewoman, her father the Earl of Shiring (Sutherland), the sadistic Lord William (David Oakes), Jack (Redmayne) the artist in stonework, and his mother Ellen (Sarah Parish), the woman from the forest who casts a curse.
