How far are you willing to go to change the way you look? How are our young people responding to the pressure to conform to what society now insists is the new normality when it comes to appearance.
Dr Byron asks why some of us are willing to starve ourselves, cut our flesh, and even break our bones to re-shape our bodies and meet social pressures about what is normal when it comes to body image.
She explores how some young and vulnerable people develop genuine psychiatric disorders based on a misperception about their body image that bring them near death. She also meets body dissidents who are prepared to break every social taboo in order to challenge our ideas of normality.
