The Australia’s Got Talent judges, Dannii Minogue, Kyle Sandilands and Brian McFadden, were left to make the tough decisions tonight, eliminating audience favourite Capree from the competition.
The top four acts from last week’s semi-final returned to learn their fate. Singer/Songwriter Dan Conway and singer David Devito received the most votes from the audience at home and the green light to perform again. It was then down to popular, but controversial, boy band Capree and comedian/impersonator Ben Price. McFadden pleaded for the rules to be changed so both could progress through to the next round, but after much deliberation it was decided to back Ben and send Capree packing, knowing they still needed some time to strengthen their vocals and are young enough to keep working at it.
Once business was taken care of at the top of the show the eight semi-finalists – percussion ensemble Mac-Cussion, young rock band The Replicators, aerial artists Belle Air, ‘rock star’ Pete the Kalabar Rockstar, comedian The Old Fella, harmonica player Rod Collins, dance troupe Instant Bun and 17-year-old jazz singer Liam Burrow returned and gave their best in a true variety showdown.
Harmonica player Rod Collins had the dubious honour of being the first act in this year’s semi-finals to be buzzed by two judges during his performance with Kyle telling him ‘I loved you before…you have ruined the magic. I’ve gone from loving you to hating you’. Rod will have to find out next week if the audience at home agrees or if the $250,000 grand prize dream is still alive.
