Downton Abbey builds on grand debut

Ratings for the Australian premiere of Downton Abbey surged to 2.049 million with the release of the time-shifted viewing results yesterday.

An additional 243,000 people watched Episode One in the seven day period following the hit British drama’s May 29 premiere.

Downton Abbey was also the most-watched programme on recorded viewing for 16-39s, 18-49s and 25-54s, adding 15.2% in 16-39s, 13.0% in 18-49s and 13.2% in 25-54s on recorded viewing.

The total viewing audience for Episode Two on Sunday night grew to 1.872 million people.

Viewers who missed Sunday’s episode can watch a special encore screening on Seven this Saturday at 3.30pm in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, 1pm in Brisbane and 3pm in Perth, or at 5.30pm Sunday on 7TWO.

Episodes are also available for catch-up online on PLUS7 at yahoo7.com.au/tv for 10 days after broadcast.

Downton Abbey continues 8.30pm Sundays on Seven, after Dancing with the Stars.
