So I have no idea how many parts will be in this final series; in the past there have been two however with 16 contestants, there is guaranteed to be more than two! How will this all work, let’s find out as the beginning of the end looms for Australia’s Got Talent Season Five!
We look at a recap of last week’s performances before getting right into it.
Grant comes out without the aid of a voiceover as he does a magnificent twirl for the camera, welcoming the audience to the finals showdown. So as it turns out, there are two final show offs before the grand final!
Grant tells us what at stake for the person who wins this thing before introducing the judges who look very happy tonight (except Kyle).
Now down to business and Grant calls out the four highest vote getters from last week. They are Majestic, Stuart Biggins, Ky Baldwin and Timomatic (whose performance was cut off from my recordings but looked pretty good). I don’t know who I want to go through, but one thing is for sure, one of them will be performing tonight.
Grant now reveals the top two vote getters, immediately advancing to the finals. The first is a very happy and ecstatic Timomatic. He may have not won So You Think You Can Dance, but he may still be able to win this one!
The next act to join Timomatic is Stuart Biggins who has beat out poor little Ky who will probably get the judges vote.
The person the judges choose now will have to perform tonight. Brian votes for Majestic, Kyle votes for Majestic (telling the ‘person’ he is sorry (Majestic is obviously two people)) and Dannii doesn’t even have to vote.
Ky thanks the judges and Australia (but his speech sounded a little scripted) to a rapturous applause.
With that, we head into the finals showdown with act one of nine tonight; Chooka Parker. We’ve seen his back story, so let’s just cut the crap and go to the performance, yeah!
It starts off weird; Chooka coming on stage, dropping his swag and randomly begins his piano playing but boy is it intense when it starts. Still, if this is all he has to offer, I don’t know if he is ‘winning’ material. I still like his music though!
Nevertheless, it gets a full standing ovation from the crowd and ALL judges (including Kyle) signalling a brilliant start to the competition.
Brian thinks it was great, let’s put it that way. Dannii wells up and can’t say much as she is about to cry and Kyle thinks this guy needs to begin to record as he makes up the tunes as he goes and they just get lost. He does reiterate that he does record and DOES remember the songs.
With that, we jump straight into act two for the night, Bree De Rome.
She’s choosing a Beatles classic, which may hurt her, but with a full swinging band, she has a lot of back up.
She’s a lot louder this time around which makes me happy however are the nerves getting to her? I’d say they are and it is a little noticeable.
She does get the crowd growing and with the up tempo music, her voice gets better but still, maybe not 100% winning material. No doubt the judges will disagree with me.
Of course when she finishes, she gets a standing ovation from everyone (this time except Kyle). Dannii calls her an absolute star saying she felt like she was at one of her concerts. Kyle calls her kooky, saying he could listen to her all day as she is wonderful. Brian is in love with her, loving her performance as always.
After a weird scene from the judging panel where Kyle nearly licks Dannii’s face, we move onto act three for the night, Ben Price the famous impersonator who already has a radio ‘deal’ with Kyle.
Today, he impersonates Dr. Phil in an interview with good ol’ Arnie. He also impersonates ‘guests’ Sylvester Stallone, Sean Connery, Ben Stiller, Owen Wilson, Russell Crowe, Tom Cruise (and the couch jumping scene) and a repeat performance from Borat!
Wow, this is his BEST performance yet, and man do I like that couch set up! He does so well, getting the crowd working. Grant loves the fact his wife can get a different man every night. Kyle thinks he is absolutely flawless and wants him to attempt Kyle’s voice however he can’t.
Brian thinks EVERY voice he does is on the money advising him not to tell us who he’s impersonating as he is so good, we can tell!
Dannii calls him a star with or without this show saying he needs his own!
He does imitate Brian (who then proceeds to ‘X’ him) but I think his voice was a little too deep, haha.
Next up is David De Vito to hopefully grab the audience like he did in his last performance and secure a spot in the final!
This is a classic song and wow, I think he’s taken the judges advice and has worked with it brilliantly. He is making that stage his own! And that background choir, well, Dancing With The Stars could use them as a replacement to what they have now.
Before he finishes his song, the judges (ALL of them) stand up and applaud him for his final score! When he finishes, Brian definitely has tears in his eyes and it is just absolutely brilliant!
Brian says it is the first time he has cried on the show, and we can see in the background a girl in the audience rubbing tears off her face.
Dannii calls it absolute perfection saying he is ‘SOOO GOOD’. Kyle calls him the Meat Loaf of opera.
Next up is a group that rehearse via skype! They are, Instant Bun!
The act starts off with one group member in a bed, and the rest coming out of it! It’s quite a quirky performance and definitely different to what we have seen. It isn’t so ‘dancy’ in terms of the music, but the moves are still there.
The dancing music soon returns and the group get into it and wow I don’t think I’ve heard an audience more vocal than this one! They were going off all performance long.
It is definitely something different and they have really put a great effort into this. One guy even rips off his underwear without taking off anything!
Brian gives two words- ‘Win’ and ‘Ning’. They have torn the house down according to McFadden! Dannii calls it a fantastic and unique performance and she loved it. Kyle loved it as well, loving how a guy can come along and admit he ‘loves dreaming of men’ (referring to the sleeping man) and even suggesting that he knows some of them aren’t wearing underpants.
Act six tonight is an original artist, Dan Conway and can he bring the magic back for a THIRD time?
I don’t know if I like this one as much as the last one but I am quite keen on the chorus. Actually, the chorus is quite good however the verses are pretty flat.
Yet again, he manages a standing ovation from Dannii and Brian suggesting good things coming up. Kyle calls him a star and the song a winning song. He doesn’t know however, who will win.
Brian is delighted for him saying what he is doing is hard and now he’s done it twice without a hitch calling him Australia’s John Mayer. Dannii calls him phenomenal and a great performer.
Next up is new addition Majestic! They beat out a good performer in Ky so they better do well. I don’t doubt that they can as well.
The music they play to is magical and yet again, the lifts are breathtaking. Was it him that promised if they go through she will be lifting him? Will she live up to this expectation?
With fireworks, they end the performance with a high flying and high spinning brilliant manoeuvre that blows me and the crowd away. But wait, it aint the end, it continues on for a little longer, sparking another three judge standing ovation! Wow, what crackers we are seeing tonight!
Brian loved it, calling it difficult to come back so soon saying they have deserved their place in the competition.
Dannii calls them phenomenal and so good, blown away! Dannii remembers their promise about her picking him up but like me, she forgives them!
Kyle is just happy seeing him wear an outfit he could wear. Overall, he calls it fabulous.
Act eight is a world sensation and with some new chompers, what can Jack Vidgen do now?
He’s performing Adele tonight and what I love about this kid, I don’t know if I’ve said it before, but he doesn’t have that Justin Bieber cockiness. He says he’s not like Justin because he isn’t. This guy is the real deal. He is nice, he actually has a voice not needed to be auto-tuned and he doesn’t need a superstar like Usher to back him up! He IS the superstar.
It is a powerful performance, one enjoyed by audience members and judges alike. And those teeth, wow, so white. And he’s nearly as tall as Grant Denyer!
Dannii bangs her hand on the table multiple times, calling him fabulous and brilliant, her best review yet. Kyle calls him the best singer to ever come out of this country (in the future) stating he looks like Ellen DeGeneres and says he may be a male diva!
Brian hates him because he will become the best male singer on the planet.
Last performance for tonight (and I have been able to tape it this time) and it is the master illusionist himself, my favourite act, COSENTINO!
The stage looks like a true prison cage and tonight, he’s not really escaping from anything, choosing to dance! Oh wait, now he has a torch, he’s lit a fire in a box, he covers the box and in a split second, uncovers the burning box to reveal a female ‘inmate’. Now they walk to an electric chair set up where he binds her to the chair, puts the electicity thingy over her head, covers her completely, puts a hat on, turns the electricity on and reveals that she has switched clothes with him. So where did he go? Somehow, behind the bloody judges. Wow, that was one very weird performance!
CRRAAAZZZYYY. Maybe not the best as the escaping one but wow, still very good.
The crowd goes wild as Kyle tells us all at home that this is ALL unedited saying he is amazed for the first time in his entire life.
Brian is confused, zipping his lips shut and miming for us to vote for him. Dannii is, well, equally as impressed as the other two.
With that, this episode is over and I wonder; there are sixteen finalists, couldn’t they split it eight acts this week and eight next week, keeping in line with the normal eight who perform each night? Oh well, only seven next week but boy was this week fun. With so much entertainment, who wouldn’t have been surprised at what has just happened! It got better and better throughout the night and guys, if you have missed any of tonight’s performances, I suggest you get on YouTube and WATCH THEM!
Sound issues were noticeable here and there, but fantastic episode and I also wonder, aren’t these ‘semi finals’? Why don’t they call the semi finals the quarter finals and these ‘finale showdowns’ semi finals? Anyway, won’t boast on about that too much, I’m outa here!
Courtney’s Verdict: 9.9/10
