MasterChef judge Matt Preston has taken aim at the lack of ethnic diversity on Channel Nine renovation series The Block.
Preston has criticised the reality series for not showing a range of ethnicities in its contestants, pointing out that all the participants are Caucasian.
“We’re not picking people on the size of their breasts, or how blonde their hair is, or how white their skin is,” says Preston.
However, The Block’s executive producer Julian Cress has hit back, pointing out that only 4 per cent of the total applicants for the series were non-Caucasian.
But Preston doesn’t see this as an issue: “The attitude of Fremantlemedia and Shine (MasterChef producers and creators respectively) is ‘so you go out and you actually search out the other people’.”
“The Amazing Race Australia (also) showed that you can reflect the multicultural society that Australia is.”
