In an absolutely ridiculous move, Ten have swapped the Renovators and Modern Family around tonight (Tuesday) as well as Thursday.
The move is no doubt to avoid having the Renovators on at the same time the Block is on Nine, and perhaps hoping people will switch over from the Block and catch the Renovators – leaving those switching over for Modern Family disappointed.
While these sorts of extreme last minute programming moves are usually a desperate grab for ratings, they rarely work to the effect the network would like.
Many who rely on pprinted guides or program their recordings for the night in advance will miss out seeing the show they want to see.
The end result will be further declines in ratings and a further drop in viewer loyalty.
No matter how much Ten try to shove the Renovators into our faces, the result is not going to change. If anything, more and more people will grow annoyed with the show and will turn off altogether.
The Renovators is now in its third week. Anyone who wanted to give it a go, will already have done so by now. Time for Ten to face up to the fact that it is not reaching the audience it would have hoped, and to simply allow the show to settle into a regular timeslot. Moving it around will just kill it off faster.
The Modern Family / Renovators swap will also continue next week.
And for those trying to keep track, on Tuesday’s episode of Modern Family is new. Thursdays’ is a repeat.
