Following the recent acquittal of murder suspect Amanda Knox, the controversial tele-movie based on the true story, AMANDA KNOX: MURDER ON TRIAL IN ITALY will premiere exclusively on FOXTEL’s W channel Saturday, October 8 at 6.30pm.
AMANDA KNOX: MURDER ON TRIAL IN ITALY poses the question of whether Knox (played by Hayden Panettiere), the Seattle honors student accused of murdering her college roommate Meredith Kercher in 2007 with her boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito, and acquaintance Rudy Guede, actually committed the crime or was herself a victim.
The Lifetime tele-movie was originally released in February 2011 but will now contain a new opening and closing card with updated information on Knox’s successful appeal and acquittal in light of the new court verdict finding Knox and her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito not guilty of Meredith Kercher’s murder – both have been released from prison this week.
“AMANDA KNOX: MURDER ON TRIAL IN ITALY is a compelling drama that follows the complex investigation and sensational trial which has dominated media headlines around the world. Following Amanda Knox’s acquittal we’re finally able to broadcast this film on FOXTEL for W viewers,” said W Channel Manager, Penny Win.
On November 2, 2007, Italian police entered a cottage in Perugia, Italy and discovered the dead body of twenty one-year-old English student Meredith Kercher. She had been fatally stabbed in the neck, her body was drenched in blood and covered with cuts and bruises. In a strange juxtaposition to the brutality of the crime, Meredith’s body had been carefully wrapped in a duvet and her head laid on a pillow. Because of this gesture of respect, police almost immediately suspected the killer was someone who knew the victim with their suspicion falling on Meredith’s roommate, American university student Amanda Knox.
This complicated trial captivated the world inspiring a legion of obsessive followers – some who passionately believed in Knox’s innocence, and others who just as fervently proclaimed her guilty. AMANDA KNOX: MURDER ON TRIAL IN ITALY inspires the same controversy amongst viewers as it tries to determine the truth about who Amanda Knox really is.
