In a live Grand Final decider tonight, 16-year-old Reece Mastin was crowned the winner of The X Factor 2011, beating off competition from runner-up Andrew Wishart and third placed Johnny Ruffo.
The schoolboy from Adelaide has been a favourite throughout the series, only once landing in bottom two. On being crowned the winner, Reece said, “This has been the most amazing experience. I never thought I’d get past the audition process, let alone here tonight. Guy is the best and I’m so happy to have had the chance to work with him and I just can’t believe it!”
Reece’s mentor, Guy Sebastian, was ecstatic to see one of his contestants take out the series, saying, “Reece is a superstar. He has absolutely got what it takes to be an international star. He’s just amazing!”
It was an emotional night on The X Factor, with 23-year-old Johnny Ruffo from Perth being the first finalist to be eliminated. It was then down to Reece and Andrew, with the public’s votes determining the winner.
Reece wins a recording contract with Sony Music and a management deal. His winning single, Good Night, will be available digitally on iTunes and Bandit.fm from tonight and be serviced to radio stations across the country. His debut album, Reece Mastin, will be released on Friday, December 9th, and feature re-recorded studio tracks of some of his incredible performances over the series such as Dream On and Paradise City.
Tonight’s Grand Final show saw a return performance from Emanuel Kelly, who performed his moving audition song, John Lennon’s Imagine, with the Top 12. One of the most memorable performers from The X Factor auditions, Perth’s Luke O’Dell, also delivered a surprise performance of his original song, Introvert/Extrovert, which even took the judges by surprise!
Tonight’s show also featured performances from The Fray, Kylie Minogue and judge, Guy Sebastian.
