The X Factor turned up the heat last night with the top six contestants taking on ‘Ultimate Dance Party’ songs. With the live shows passing the halfway mark and the grand final only weeks away, the pressure is on the finalists to deliver outstanding performances every week.
Reece Mastin opened the show putting his own rock spin on the classic Bee Gees track Staying Alive – a track which caused some controversy between the judges with Mel B saying, “You need to mix it up, this is dance week. I’ve got a rock chick but I’ve got her doing a dance song because that’s the theme!”
Mel B’s remaining contestant Christina Parie got a standing ovation from her mentor and from judge Natalie Bassingthwaighte for her version of Kelly Rowland’s When Love Takes Over. With Ronan Keating saying, “Welcome back to The X Factor, Christina!”
Ronan’s Three Wishez got the crowd on their feet closing the show with their mash up of Chaka Khan and Salt ‘n’ Pepa with Guy Sebastian saying, “One of the best performances of the show.”
Tomorrow night’s elimination show will see the Top 6 become five, with the public’s votes determining who will land in the bottom two.
Tonight’s show will see the finalists perform alongside special guest Havana Brown, and homegrown superstars Jessica Mauboy and Stan Walker will debut their new single Galaxy. Plus a special performance by X Factor judge Ronan Keating.
The X Factor continues tonight at 7.30pm.
