William H. Macyy stars in this racy and edgy adaptation of the long-running, BAFTA Award winning British family drama as Frank Gallagher, the alcoholic patriarch of a large, unconventional, blue-collar family. In the U.S. version, the sprawling Gallagher family has been transplanted to working-class Chicago during the challenging times of today’s recession. Making ends meet is always difficult, especially with a mother who is AWOL and a father who usually ends up passed out on the living room floor. Emmy Rossum stars as oldest daughter Fiona, who is left to the often impossible task of keeping her five younger brothers and sisters on track. Bearing the de facto parent badge/burden, she’s donned the proverbial apron and makes sure her younger siblings do their chores, keep a clean(ish) home and feed the kitty – the Gallagher family fund jar – because the gas bill is due, and everyone (no matter how small) works to keep the house lights on, as well as food on the table. Brothers Lip (Jeremy Allen White), Ian (Cameron Monaghan) and Carl (Ethan Cutkosky) use their intellect to break every rule in the book to survive and make the bank, while younger sister Debbie (Emma Kenney) would sooner steal her share. The series also features Justin Chatwin as Steve, Shanola Hampton as Victoria, Steve Howey as Kevin and Joan Cusack guest stars as Sheila Jackson. Series creator Paul Abbott (Clocking Off, State of Play) is an executive producer.
