Saturday, 24 December 2011 In the six years since turning to comedy in 2005, Tim Minchin has become one of the most successful live comedy performers in the world.
Fresh from a sold-out, critically-acclaimed arena tour of the UK, he returned to Australia for a national tour with the six state orchestras. ABC2 Live gave local audiences an exclusive opportunity to see Tim Minchin performing live with the Sydney Symphony at the Sydney Opera House.
Since winning ‘best newcomer’ at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in the same year, Tim’s star has been on the rise, breaking through to the US, winning Best Alternative Comedian at the 2007 HBO Comedy Arts Festival, followed by the 2009 Helpmann Award for Best Comedy Performer in Australia.
He has appeared on Friday Night with Jonathan Ross (BBC1), Never Mind the Buzzcocks (BBC2); Comedy Shuffle (BBC3); The Melbourne International Comedy Festival Gala (Network 10 Australia); Adam Hills in Gordon Street Tonight and Spicks and Specks (ABC Australia); and The Secret Policeman’s Ball (Channel 4), among others.
Most recently he has narrated Shaun Tan’s Academy Award-winning animation short The Lost Thing, written the score for a new musical Matilda commissioned by the Royal Shakespeare Company, and was the subject of the ABC Television-commissioned documentary Rock and Roll Nerd.
