Today Tonight prepares Big Brother hate story as Mike Goldman considers comeback for 2012 season

An early Christmas present for reality lovers like me; some goss on Big Brother! This time, the Courier Mail has reported that Seven’s current affairs program Today Tonight is planning to air a story based on Big Brother contestants whose lives have been ruined due to the show.

Long time narrator of Big Brother, Mike Goldman told the paper that Seven staff have asked him for phone numbers to help aid them with their story. It’s the first of probably many-to-come major backlashes against the series which is set to return on Nine in 2012 for a rebooted ninth season.

While many would see this as an attack, I would personally say this could help the show. Unlike many other countries, Australian housemates’ lives are only ever really documented in the media if they are a success. There’s hardly any information going around about those contestants who have pulled a short straw. It may actually be an interesting piece of production for fans to watch. Anyone who doesn’t like the show will probably just dismiss the story as another one of those ‘unnecessary current affair program ‘stories”.

In the same article however, Goldman admitted that he had been in talks with Nine, albeit early talks, to return to the show ‘in some form’.

Just last month I ran an opinion piece which discussed how Nine should go about choosing a narrator for the program. I offered my personal opinion that Mike would be perfect however could be a little hesitant considering he was ready to quit the show and not return for a ninth season had TEN commissioned one for 2009.

But it seems we could see a return after all. Not much is known on this fact, but if it is all true, it could be one of the best decisions Nine has made for the show since announcing its revival. That’s saying something too considering the positive reception fans have given the network surrounding its decisions for the show. Even Kruger seems to be a hit!

So this news should definitely keep you fans satiated and hopefully leaves you all with a sweet taste in your mouths as we head into the silliest part of the silly season!

Big Brother: Secrets airs on Nine in 2012 with full episode recaps uploaded here on Throng after every episode.

I so think they do. Mike is, as I’ve said, the only common link between all eight Big Brother seasons and would be a terrible loss to Nine if these talks do not succeed. But the fact he’s even considering returning is a huge surprise, so who knows what could happen.

What I find funny is actually how much effort Nine is going through with this to make it succeed. In September, we all thought they would slap in a Nine personality to host and have either them or some B grade Nine celeb like Jamie Durie narrate the thing.

Three months later and we’ve realised that Nine has gone out of its way to poach an unlikely choice of host out of Seven’s Sonia Kruger and is now even spending its energy to lure Mike back on board. It’s fantastic news and something I will be very proud of Nine for doing if they can pull it off with at least 80% success.

I wonder if 7 is just jealous that they didn’t think to bring it back themselves? lol. Sucks to be them.

I hope Mike comes back, he was great.. and I would love to see the old stuff like Uplate, and Friday night games (only if bree & fitzy come back as well). I think Sonia is going to be a good host, she has the same warmth that Gretel has.

On another note – who is taking Sonia’s place as co-host on DWTS? Or is Dan the man going to host alone?

Seven I don’t think need the show; with a clean sweep of weekly wins and a few reality shows up their sleeve already, I don’t think they would have room, haha.

I’m with you, Loz. UpLate was one of the best features of Big Brother IMO. I’ll have to see how Sonia goes, but I don’t think she should be too bad.

Unfortunately, there is no real news on the Dancing front- but many have suspected anyone from Natalie Bassingthwaighte to Rachel Finch as possible replacemember for Kruger. More news will probably develop early next year. Keep an eye out!

    Thanks for the comment!!
