An early Christmas present for reality lovers like me; some goss on Big Brother! This time, the Courier Mail has reported that Seven’s current affairs program Today Tonight is planning to air a story based on Big Brother contestants whose lives have been ruined due to the show.
Long time narrator of Big Brother, Mike Goldman told the paper that Seven staff have asked him for phone numbers to help aid them with their story. It’s the first of probably many-to-come major backlashes against the series which is set to return on Nine in 2012 for a rebooted ninth season.
While many would see this as an attack, I would personally say this could help the show. Unlike many other countries, Australian housemates’ lives are only ever really documented in the media if they are a success. There’s hardly any information going around about those contestants who have pulled a short straw. It may actually be an interesting piece of production for fans to watch. Anyone who doesn’t like the show will probably just dismiss the story as another one of those ‘unnecessary current affair program ‘stories”.
In the same article however, Goldman admitted that he had been in talks with Nine, albeit early talks, to return to the show ‘in some form’.
Just last month I ran an opinion piece which discussed how Nine should go about choosing a narrator for the program. I offered my personal opinion that Mike would be perfect however could be a little hesitant considering he was ready to quit the show and not return for a ninth season had TEN commissioned one for 2009.
But it seems we could see a return after all. Not much is known on this fact, but if it is all true, it could be one of the best decisions Nine has made for the show since announcing its revival. That’s saying something too considering the positive reception fans have given the network surrounding its decisions for the show. Even Kruger seems to be a hit!
So this news should definitely keep you fans satiated and hopefully leaves you all with a sweet taste in your mouths as we head into the silliest part of the silly season!
