Top 20 Reality Television Stars of 2011- #8: Brynne Edelsten (Dancing With The Stars)

Intro: Brynne Edelsten strutted onto the dancefloor as one of this season’s least known celebrities. That was all about to change. After one week, she had already indirectly caused two separate controversies. One surrounded judge Josh Horner calling her a ‘bedazzled sack of potatoes’ after a disastrous performance. The other concerned an ill received joke made by co-host Sonia Kruger in which she referred to Brynne’s husband Geoffrey Edelsten as her ‘dad’. Despite her ditzy personality and poor dancing skills which improved very little over the season, she managed to survive elimination after elimination due to the public support she received after those initial incidents. She managed to make seventh place which isn’t too spectacular for a competition involving only eleven contestants, but nothing to be sneezed at either if you take into consideration her dancing ability.

Why She Made The List: Brynne made the list for the above controversies. No doubt that they were exasperated by continuous coverage by Seven News affiliates and overly hyped up on the show itself, but there is also no doubt that these events defined Dancing with the Stars. You probably won’t get someone like Brynne Edelsten on the show for a long time. That’s either a very good thing or a very bad thing depending on what way you look at it. Brynne also created a bit of car crash telly on The Morning Show when her stale presenting abilities and reliance on the auto cue became a source of jokes when she did a stint on the show, filling in for Kylie. My god it was hilarious.

Legacy: I normally don’t do this for celebrity reality contestants, but I’ll make a small exception here. If whispers are true, it does seem that a primetime reality show detailing Brynne’s life is in the works for the Seven Network next year. Something to keep an eye on…?

This was a very short entry, but there’s not too much to say. Why Brynne made the list wasn’t due to the quantity of time she spent on air making a name for herself; it was simply the quality of the events that defined her stint. Definitely worthy of an eighth place spot! So who’s in number seven? Well, I’m a little annoyed that we haven’t seen much of this person since the end of the show, but I don’t think ANYONE will EVER forget this true star in their own right!

And just a few things regarding this list to finish off.

Remember that no names will be published on Christmas Day; so the top 6 will be announced FROM December 26th. On December 31, we’ll announce the 2011 Reality Star of the Year. And what may become a recurring element; we’ll also be releasing two more accolades. One will be a short list compiled of noteworthy contestants who did not make the list. The second will be the 2011 Reality Personality of the Year which will basically announce who we think is the most deserved, well loved, professional, opinionated yet polarising personality relating to reality television for the year. This will either be a judge, mentor or host of a reality competition.
