American Idol Season 11 - Savannah Auditions

Where were you on the day it all started and thousands of dreams were born? 10 years in the making. Kids who were 6 years old when Kelly Clarkson was first crowned American Idol will tonight get their chance to audition for their shot at becoming the next American Idol.

One of the new introductions for 2012 is contestant cam.  It will chronicle their journies from their perspective. Fun times.

Tonight the auditions start in Savanah, Georgia and Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez are back for the 11th season.

First up is 17 year old ladies man David Leathers Jr who beat last year’s winner, Scotty McCreery in a competition in 2009. He sings Remember the Rain. He’s very good. They want to hear him sing some Michael Jackson so he delievers Never Can Say Goodbye. It’s a unanimous and resounding yes to start the show.

Gabi Carrubba has been dancing since she was a toddler. And wow she can sing as well. Her rendition of Sunday Morning is truly a delight. As the judges all say, she was born to do this.

It’s a great start to the show with Brianna Faulk Neco Starr getting through with Grenade, Molly Hunt with You’re No Good and Elise Testone all making it through.

Ryan Seacrest look-a-like Shaun Kraisman isn’t going through but should audition for Ryan’s job if in fact he makes this his last season.

Shannon Magrane brings something a little different with Good Feeling. Considering she auditions in front of her entire family with no nerves, she’s amazing. She’s through to Hollywood with another golden ticket.

It’s time for some of those ear achingly bad auditions.  Even though they look beautiful, they certainly don’t sound it.

Amy Brumfield lives in a tent out in the middle of the woods. She sings Super Woman and she has a better than average voice but she lacks any real power in her voice. Her story will get her through. Sure enough, it’s out of the tent and off to Hollywood. She jokes that she’d like to pitch a tent behind the mansion if she makes it that far.

Joshua Chavis has a dream to sing the Star Spangled Banner at a Nascar race. He’ll probably have about as much luck with that as he did with his audition! Hahaha!

Someone who is a little nasally when they sing is Stephanie Renae. She sings the song Carrie Underwood sang when she won, Inside Your Heaven.  Randy says not yet but the other two are in so she’s through to Hollywood.

Schyler Dixon and her brother audition together. She sings Fallin’ to Pieces, while her brother Colton sings Permanent. They’re both very good and both very through to Hollywood.

Lauren Mink works with people with disabilities. She sings Country Strong and again we hear Jennifer Lopez say “Goosies”.  She’s through with another golden ticket.

Day 2 begins with a pretty bad start.

Ashlee Altise sings and dances her way through Come Together.  She’s quirky.  It’s three yeses.

W.T. Thompson has taken a huge risk by quiting his job to pursue his dream. Considering he has a baby on the way with his wife, this is likely to be a situation full of a lot of regret or a lot of joy.  It’s not unanimous but he’s heading through to Hollywood after winning Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson over with Boondocks.

Next up is a segment of girls with the hots for Steven Tyler. Erica Nowak thinks he is her next ex-husband. After a couple of butt squeezes, she’s thankfully sent on her way.

NBA dancer Brittany Kerr is gorgeous and she sings Could Have Been You and the guys are in but Jennifer Lopez isn’t on team Kerr. I hate how the looks can get lack of talent through the audition process yet you know will go home the first day in Hollywood.

Finally tonight is Phillip Phillips and yes, that is his real name. He sings Superstition in his own special way before they ask him to pick up his guitar and he bust out a country version of Thriller.  Amazing.  Randy says he’s a true artist.  It’s unanimous, leaving Savanah with a total of 42 singers through to Hollywood
