3:00pm – Thursday, February 9 on ABC1
The world’s elite female golfers will converge on Melbourne from February 9 – 12 for the nation’s most prestigious golf tournament for women – The 2012 Women’s Australian Open golf championship – broadcast live AEDT on ABC1.
This year, for the first time, The Open has been added to the LPGA tour, becoming the opening event of the year. This puts the Women’s Australian Open on the world stage and guarantees the world’s best will be there.
Hosting ABC TV’s exclusive live coverage of the four day tournament, from the prestigious Royal Melbourne Golf Club, will be ABC TV’s Stephanie Brantz.
Stephanie says it will be the first time in the Open’s history that the tournament has been played at the famous Royal Melbourne Golf Club.
“The women will compete on Royal Melbourne’s stunning ‘world top ten’ composite course used for The President’s Cup in November, she says.” The Women’s Australian Open has a special place in golfers’ hearts. Since the tournament’s inception in 1974 the championship has continually attracted world golf’s elite players to compete for the Patricia Bridges Bowl.
Hot favourites for the 2012 Open are world number one and defending champion Yani Tseng and Australia’s greatest golfer Karrie Webb.
With an LPGA quality field of national and international players competing in this year’s Open, ABC TV viewers can expect to see the most exciting golf and fantastic scoring.
ABC TV’s commentary will be led by Steve Robilliard and Peter Wilkins with highly respected international experts Jane Crafter and Kate Burton. Describing the action from the fairways will be Sandra McKenzie.
