This week on HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, while the gang reminisces about what happened during Hurricane Irene, Barney tries desperately to cut a deal with Marshall and Lily to get out of wearing the ducky tie.
Barney’s desperate to get rid of the ducky tie, so much so that he even offers up a slap in exchange for being allowed to remove the tie. Kevin wonders about the sudden urgency, and quickly analyses Barney’s motives. He correctly deduces that Barney is going to meet Nora’s parents, and doesn’t want to look like an idiot. Lily and Marshall decide that it’s a valid reason, and acquiesce, but they’ll need something in return…
Meanwhile, Kevin asks about a No Boogie Boarding sign posted at the bar, which prompts Ted to tell him the story about Hurricane Irene. As the storm approached New York, Ted utilized his Boy Scout skills to gather an emergency backpack and a rental car in order to ferry the gang to his house in Westchester. A detour to Barney’s ended up stranding them in the city, and Lily and Marshall had a life-altering experience.
Barney and Robin also share a moment that night, but they kept it to themselves.
