Mike Whitney celebrates 18th year with Sydney Weekender

Mike Whitney will take his place in television history this month, as he enters his 18th year as host of the popular travel show, Sydney Weekender – returning this Saturday at 5.30pm.

Since retiring from representing Australia in international cricket, Mike began hosting Sydney Weekender in 1994, and has been welcoming its loyal viewers every Saturday afternoon for the past 17 years.

Almost two decades of travelling the far breadths of New South Wales has opened Mike’s eyes to some of our state’s unfound treasures and local communities. Mike says: “You would think after 17 years of travelling I would have seen everything, but I am still amazed each week at how many new places we are still discovering.”

Mike adds: “We have a fantastic team of research staff who are constantly on the lookout for accommodation, eateries and things to see and do in NSW. If it wasn’t for this hard working team, I would not have made it this far!”

Mike’s stellar television career also includes hosting reality programs including Who Dares Wins and Last Chance Learners, while palming off sledges from contestants during his time refereeing on Gladiators. To this day Mike is still asked by Who Dares Wins fans if he can “dare them.”

In August this year, Mike will lock in 750 episodes with Sydney Weekender.

Sydney Weekender continues to dominate its timeslot.
