It’s early morning and the contestants are all at MKR HQ, and we are reminded that Meg and Simon are safe. Today they are told they will take over Bed and Breakfasts and are headed to the Blue Mountains. They will serve to the B&B owners, their families. They have 1 and a half hours to cook for 50 guests and each will vote for their favourite dish. Whoever gets the most votes will join Meg and Simon in the safety zone and Manu and Pete will choose the worst dish and they will go to an elimination sudden death cookoff
The teams have 15 minutes to get all their ingredients for breakfast and some are screaming, it’s frantic and the princess is even running. They all arrive at the B&B’s and start their processes, but people are having trouble finding things in strange kitchens.
What they are cooking –
NSW – Steve & Helen: Mediterranean pancakes with fig compote and yoghurt cream
WA – Angela & Justine: Baked pancetta eggs with Italian beans and corn muffins.
SA – Leigh & Jennifer: Slow cooked eggs with green sauce.
QLD – David & Scott: Field Mushrooms with asparagus, cherry tomatoes, poached eggs and chutney – Wow!
VIC – Thomas & Carla: Honey chicken and roasted almond filo with blueberry marmalade and goats cheese – Yuck!
NSW – Sam & Jillian: French toast with banana cream and strawberry syrup.
SA – Nic & Rocco: Bacon, egg and spinach parcels
TAS – Megan & Andy: Bacon, leek and gruyere tarts with roasted tomatoes and rocket.
QLD – Peter & Gary: Breakfast crepe with chive veloute
VIC – Carly & Emily: Blueberry brioch cup with labneh yoghurt
Carly and Emily do a test run of their “cups” and almost set the place on fire so they swap the silicon trays for metal pans. Pete arrives at Nic and Rocco’s and tells them that all eyes will be on them as they got the highest score so far. Steve’s pancakes are looking really good, Sam seems to be having a bit of trouble with gelatine again, Megan forgot to prick the pastry and Manu arrives to see the princess. Manu is worried about the girls and should be, they can’t get temperature to the 62 degrees they need, because they discover that the thermometer is broken.
The B&B has a thermometer – they are relieved and get the temperature correct. Pete arrives at Thomarse and Carla the cows and is questioning the all the ingredients that they are incorporating – chicken, marmalade and goats cheese. Now to the lesser villians, or are they? Peter says that he wants Sam and Gillian to go because they stabbed them in the back and their cooking isn’t very good. Manu is at Megan and Andy’s and the tarts are looking good. Steve and Helen are really confident and have tasted, tasted , tasted and think they will win.
EEEWWWW – Thomas and Carlas mixture looks disgusting, Peters crepes are looking average and the princess’ eggs are apparently perfect, Carly and Emily’s muffins are sinking but the army boys look good. Everyone is manic at the end but it’s all over and it’s time to serve. Alot of the competitors are overwhelmed at what the others have created and the guests arrive. Here are the judges comments:
NSW – Steve & Helen: Manu likes the soft pancakes and says it’s different. Peter loved it.
WA – Angela & Justine: A guest says the textures are odd and Pete likes the beans, but they don’t like the muffin.
SA – Leigh & Jennifer: Manu loves it, it’s clever and beautiful and the eggs are perfect. Manu tells them they showed great courage.
QLD – David & Scott: Both judges love it and think it’s a great dish. The combination wasn’t enjoyable at all. A good honest and solid dish.
VIC – Thomas & Carla: Haha – I think Pete’s going to vomit! Manu likes the jam.
NSW – Sam & Jillian: The toast is dry because it wasn’t left in the egg long enough and the banana cream tastes wrong.
SA – Nic & Rocco: A guest says there is too much pastry, Pete says the quality is no where near what they served in their instant restaurant. Pete says out of all the dishes of the day it was the least presentable and there was no wow in the flavour.
TAS – Megan & Andy: Pete’s happy with it and the gruyere gives it a lovely flavour but the pastry wasn’t cooked.
QLD – Peter & Gary: Very old school but the flavour isn’t too bad. Manu liked it but it’s too dated – but “So are we” says Gary – haha. If they want to go further they will need a modern edge
VIC – Carly & Emily: Guests like it, Manu is relly enjoying it and Pete thinks it’s great. They are told that it tastes like bread and butter pudding, but it was fantastic
Now for the votes from the guests, the team who gets the most will be the peoples choice and be safe. And the winner is ……….. Carly and Emily!!! They are over the moon and don’t know how they went from an exploding muffin to winning. Peter and Gary the villians are BACK. They are highly unimpressed and Peter goes far enough to say that “serving a dessert for breakfast , it’s like cheating.”
Heading to sudden death, with Pete and Manu’s least favourite dish is Thomas and Carla – Yeah – happy dance time! Oh my Carla thinks that they were trying to be creative and it’s not working – really, you think?? Magan and Andy think they don’t have a clue and I agree. Tomorrow they will be cooking at MKR HQ and it looks like a great episode – who will be joining Thomas and Carla in sudden death?
Safe:
NZ – Simon & Meg
VIC – Carly & Emily
Headed to sudden death:
VIC – Thomas & Carla
