Group one have shown what they can do in the kitchen and now it’s group two’s turn to plate up. The six new teams in group two are:
New South Wales – Sam & Jillian (Potential in-laws)
Western Australia – Emma & Andrew (Engaged scientists)
South Australia – Nic & Rocco (Childhood mates)
Tasmania – Megan & Andy (Sales Reps)
Queensland – Peter & Gary (Lawyer and Doctor) – oooh look like the baddies!
Victoria – Carly & Emily (Competitive Sisters)
Tonight, it’s New South Wales turn to cook as potential in-laws Sam and Jillian prepare their three-course menu. Sam is dating Jillian’s son Grant. They get along like a house on fire but will they reach boiling point before the competition’s over? The pair also love to look good but will their sense of style translate to the plate?
In Sylvania Waters the girls get all dolled up before going shopping, grooming and fashion is very important to these two – as it seems, so is plastic surgery is for Jillian. The ladies head to the shops at Southgate in Sydney’s south and for entree they are making pea soup with parmesan pillows. Yet they are having trouble finding agar agar, a vital ingredient for them. They find it in noodle form, yet have only ever worked with it in powdered form.
Main course will be sesame encrusted tuna with pan fried potato, ginger and garlic aioli with asparagus and jamon crumbs. Manu thinks is mixing too much Asian and French. Back at home they decorate their restaurant called “Food Republic” to represent Carnivale. It looks great and they head to the kitchen.
For dessert the ladies are preparing an Earl Grey Tea bombe Alaska with a fiery twist!?! Pete is worried. They infuse the tea and think will be their grand finale. The agar agar is going really well and all is looking good. The parmesan pillow has flopped and not set – oh dear. The girls get changed as is a priority to them rather than fixing their dishes and look like they are in trouble.
The women head down the stairs and it looks like Priscilla Queen of The Desert. Lets hope they are queens of the dessert. The instant restaurant impresses the guests and they offer drinks – but there is NO beer! What restaurant has no beer? The guests chat and explain their relationships.
As the guests relax the parmasen pillows are awful – and now the judges arrive. They look idiotic cooking in fascinators. Sam is overwhelmed and alsost faints meeting the judges. They are expecting alot and the girls explain their menu and say they are not presenting the pillow. Manu thinks it’s a bad start. Pete is hoping they include the parmesan flavour though.
They serve the soup in jars – ??? They are short by one soup and it looks like it’s all crashing down on them in NSW. The guests are served and Pete is upset there is no parmesan. The ladies want to crawl in a whole and Sam is sobbing. Manu likes she cares but Pete thinks the soup is one dimensional. The presentation is rewarded put colour criticised. The guests are loving it though.
Cooking the main meal they make the Jamon crumbs and Pete enters the kitchen. Pete is worried that the sesame seeeds are not toasted that they are encrusting the tuna in. All the contestants want their tuna rare – can they do it? It’s been over an hour since entree – what is wrong with these people? The tuna is not rare but RAW. There is no aioli either, oh dear.
Unfortunately there is no moisture Manu says and Pete wants to know where the seasoning is. The dish to Pete looks dry but if there was aioli would have been a great dish. Did the aioli run off with the pillow? The girls now present the bombe Alaska.
The girls have a fiery twist with Grand Marnier and it looks amazing until the ladle is set on fire and the whole pot goes on fire. Manu likes the dessert and both judges feel it has lifted them up. The contestants love it too. Now for judgment.
