Tonight it is Jennifer the princess and Leighs turn from South Australia – will the other teams be as harsh on the girls as they have been so far? Jennifer says she doesn’t know why she has the princess tag! Really ?
The girls head off to shop for barramundi for their entree which is – fish floss (say this 5 times fast! ) with green mango and pork belly salad. Manu is worried that the floss seems the main part of the dish, as is usually just placed on top of a salad – more like a garnish, so hopes it won’t take over. Pete explains it is fish that is cooked, shredded and deep fried. For the main the girls are serving crispy skin mulloway with micro herbs, daikon salad and a chilli tamarind sauce.
With 3 hrs and 15 mins on the clock the girls start to set up their restaurant “Burlesque”. In the theme of burlesque it’s all red draping, red roses and Parisian – how does that tie into Thai food? Leigh says it’s very lush, rich and bold – like them in a way! Now the cooking starts. The fish is wrapped in banana leaf and placed in the oven.
The dessert is going to be custard pandan chiffon with sago, a sesame seed praline and passionfruit mousse. Pete and Manu think it’s alot going on there. The cake is not looking good – but the girls say they have no choice but to leave it as they have to get dressed. Jennifer looks like a bird is attacking her neck.
The guests arrive and everyone is impressed and served lychee and lemongrass mojito’s. Angela picks up on the fact that she feels like she should be in Thailand and not a burlesque setting. Red wine is poured out of very odd decanters and the entrees are under way when the judges arrive. As they are cooking they have to leave the judges waiting at the door – how rude. Princess Jen asks if they would like to go to the reastaurant – Pete says ….yeah. Haha.
Menu’s are opened and everyone seems very impressed – yet most are confused at what fish floss is and Kiwi Simon says if he wanted to clean his teeth he would have brought his toothbrush. Pete heads to the kitchen and seems concerned there is no flavours in the floss and at the amount there is. Too me it looks like a mouthful of oil but the salad looks awesome. Ok floss looks better now, still a little odd.
Manu and Pete try the dish and Jennifers eyes go all cartoon like. Manu likes it, Pete criticizes the amount of floss and presentation. Everyone seems to love it. The girls start on the main and the salad looks beautiful but there is a problem – the fish hasn’t been deboned. The tweezers aren’t working so they cut the fillets into smaller pieces so they can get them out. The presentation of the main is gorgeous.
There is a problem for Manu it is that they put the salad on top of the fish so it has lost it’s crispy skin, Pete disagrees and thinks it’s nearly perfect. All are really impressed and love it. The desert seems like it will be a tasting plate to Pete and he is worried. The girls are serving it on a tile and it’s weird looking. The sago looks wrong. Angela wants to know if they ran out of plates and have ripped the bathroom up! Carla says she’s brought food up on a tile before!
Pete says that just the cake should of been served with cream or ice cream, Manu thinks it looks crazy, the cake and sago are dry and it doesn’t go together. Thomas thinks it’s a bloody disaster, Justine and Angela are making hilarious faces of discontent and all hate the tile as it makes a scraping sound and didn’t fit the theme. Now it’s judgement time!
