Recap: The Biggest Loser Australia: Singles Season Seven – Weigh In & Elimination #3

Previous episode: The Biggest Loser Australia: Singles Season Seven – Challenge #3

It’s going to be a tight one tonight. With one team on immunity and one gaining a 2kg penalty, this will be one very harsh gloves-come-off weigh in. For the teams who do not perform at their best, a brutal third elimination beckons. Who will be cut just short of boys v girls week? It’s gonna be a close one!

We are given quite a creative recap of the events of the challenge that have played out thus far. You can read about it by clicking the link above.

The girls are all through, leaving the red and black teams to compete to stay above last place.

Still, this is quite a lengthy recap. Wouldn’t be necessary if they completed the episode on Thursday!

Graham is struggling to get up out of the mud, leaving blue team ample opportunity to catch up and over take. Graham finally gets up after what feels like together. The blue team try to keep up but are too late. The black team reaches the finish line- leaving us with an interesting dilemma. The blue team have immunity, but now have a 2kg weight penalty. It doesn’t make sense to me…what could this mean?

Hayley congratulates the red team for winning, giving praise to Lisa and Lydia. Hayley tells the blue team that they do have the 2kg penalty. I’m guessing that if the blue team only loses 1.9kg in total, it would mean they will have gained 0.1kg taking into consideration the 2kg penalty. In this case, they lose immunity. So technically they all need to make sure they lose more than that! Too easy!

So, convinced his team isn’t doing enough to get fit, Shannan, along with Tiffiny, head down to the bunker to spy on them.

Well, the blue team isn’t in the gym at all, shocking both Shannan and Tiffiny. Why is Tiffiny shocked? Well, that’s because none of her team are there, either!

But all of a sudden, after an hour, Luke walks in. Hamish has rolled in as well. Ryan finally enters the room as well. This is at 7.17am- nearly two hours after training began! But at least they showed up! Tiffiny’s crew aren’t even there.

She heads to their bedroom and slams on their door in what is both a powerful yet amusing show of aggression. They are all shocked to see the fuming Tiffiny in their room. She takes them to the training room and makes them train…hard!

She asks Selena if she wants to be here. She says she does, but orders Tiffiny to change the diet. Wow, pretty left hook! Didn’t see Selena coming out with that.

Tiffiny takes this as an excuse and ignores her. Selena breaks down and Tiffiny wonders if she is scared of weigh in. Tiffiny asks if she has been doing everything right and she believes she has. Clearly she hasn’t, but she should be fine if she’s been keeping up a healthy routine.

With that, it’s time for weigh in! They all walk in and the only thing on these contestant’s minds is that one single spot above the yellow line.

Hayley welcomes them and reiterates their chances this week- only a 1 in 3 shot of being safe. The blue team are first to weigh in, as they are technically safe. Ryan is first up.

Last week, he weighed 221.5kg. This week, he weighs 214.2kg- a loss of 7.3kg! They’re safe. Ryan is very relieved due to the week he’s had. He feels his goal is still far off, but achievable.

He hasn’t had a passion for life for the past few years, but with the help of the show, he is finding his zest!

Luke is next. He weighed 133.2kg. He now weighs 129.0kg, a loss of 4.2kg.

Hamish weighed 140.5kg. He now weighs 136.7kg, a loss of 3.8kg- bringing the blue team’s weight loss total to 15.3kg. With the penalty, that is 13.3% and a total weight loss percentage of 2.69%.

Now, the competitive weigh in begins and it starts off with Alex from the black team.

He takes his cast off and walks up. He weighed 146.0kg. He now weighs 143.2kg, a loss of 2.8kg. With a cast, that is pretty big! He is still disappointed, hoping for either 5 or 6kg this week. The Commando isn’t surprised considering everyone has bad weeks and he’s been confined to a cast. As of next week, his work outs are allowed to be intensified. Margie offers her condolences for his hard work and even Hayley calls him a true inspiration. What a lovely host!

Simon is next. He weighed 151.2kg. He now weighs 147.3kg, a loss of 3.9kg.

Graham weighed 193.2kg. He is nervous after Shane’s elimination and the other two’s numbers.

He now weighs 188.8kg, a loss of 4.4kg, bringing his team’s total weight loss to 11.1kg, giving them a weight loss percentage of 2.26%, putting them in second place.

The Commando is concerned for his team, but Graham is happy with his result.

He tears up when he talks about his family being proud for not coming last in the challenge.

The red team are next- they need to lose 10.9kg to beat the black team. Margie is lucky first.

She weighed 145.6kg. She now weighs 141.7kg, a loss of 3.9kg! She seems happy enough.

Lisa is next. She weighed 96.0kg. Her current weight is 94.3kg, a loss of 1.7kg. Lisa doesn’t feel this was enough.

Brenda walks up. She weighed 110.4kg. She now weighs 108.3kg, a loss of 2.1kg. She feels it was a little number for such a lot of work.

It all rides on Lydia now, but if anyone can pull a big number, it is her. She needs to lose 3.2kg.

She is terrified, noting that no one is ready to go home. She knows she has worked hard, but hopes it is hard enough. She walks up to be weighed.

She weighed 127.2kg. She now weighs 124.1kg, a loss of 3.1kg! That gives them a loss of 10.8kg, or 2.25% weight loss percentage. Lydia cries as she and the red team falls below the yellow line by just 0.01%.

Michelle asks her to stand up there with her head held high because she did so well. She doesn’t feel as if one of her team should leave just yet.

She feels as if she is carrying the team. She actually tearfully said that in a cutaway before being weighed in. Technically, it was a bit of a giveaway.

The white team are last, and they need to lose 11.3kg to stay safe this week.

Michelle comes up first. She weighed 100.4kg. This week, she weighs 97.5kg- a loss of 2.9kg! She is below the 100kg mark! She is very happy as she hasn’t been that weight since high school.

She feels that she is no longer a quitter.

Bek is next. She weighed 117.7kg. Her weight now is, 114.4kg, a loss of 3.3kg!

Selena is next. The white team still needs to lose 5.1kg. She weighed 156.5kg. Her weight is now…149.5kg! A massive loss of 7.0kg, bringing the white team’s total weight loss to 13.2kg, rendering them safe from elimination for the first time this year.

Tiffiny uses this weight loss as an excuse that the diet is working.

Casey is next. She weighed 122.6kg. She now weighs 118.4kg, a loss of 4.2kg! That brings the white team’s weight loss total to 17.4kg, giving them a weight loss percentage of 3.50%, putting them in top place.

This means that the black team will face elimination alongside the red team.

They both now have to make a gut wrenching decision. Who will face elimination? The blue and white team trainers now leave the weigh in room.

The contestants begin to delve and for the first time, we hear who is going to face elimination before elimination itself. Alex and Brenda put themselves forward. The red team have struck a deal with the white team to not vote off a red team member.

After the break, it is elimination time! The fate of the older contestants is in the hands of the younger contestants!

The nominees are revealed and it is sadness all around.

Brenda is certain that the white team has her back. I really don’t like the amount of cutaways of Brenda proclaiming her safety.

Michelle is upset to see the two on the end of the table. Brenda knows she has to be here as she can’t do it on the outside. Alex also feels he has to be here as he will be dead in two years if he isn’t and they’ve just buried his mother. He’s at an age where it is now or never.

The votes are now asked to be cast. Who will be eliminated?

The first person to receive four votes will be eliminated.

Bek is first. As a white team member, she should vote for Alex to leave. She gives both Brenda and Alex some kind and teary words before revealing that she has voted to eliminated Brenda! Brenda rolls her eyes.

Luke is next. After a bit of the usual banter, he votes to eliminate Brenda.

Kasey is next. She votes to eliminate Alex.

Hamish is next. He votes to eliminate Brenda. She needs one more vote to be eliminated.

Michelle is next to reveal her vote. She chooses to eliminate Alex.

Next is Ryan. He chooses to eliminate Brenda, using his head over his heart.

With that, Brenda is eliminated in what was obviously coming after her somewhat hopeful cutaways.

She is heartbroken as you can imagine. But she has no regrets. She recaps on her time on the show. With that, she is asked to leave the camp having lost 12.5kg. She says her goodbyes and leaves the room and the competition.

Luckily, she has learned to ‘love herself’. We are shown that she has lost 22kg since leaving The Biggest Loser.

Her new trainer looks a bit like Michelle and as I write this, Brenda shares the same note!

After all that is done, Hayley tells them all that the game is about to change. She tells them that the game is about to be turned on its head.

As not all the contestants are there, she just leaves that thought with them.

This was you average, run of the mill weigh-in/elimination episode. I’m so glad they’ve gone back to pairing the two together! I was worried there that they wouldn’t. I felt at times the cutaways were a bit unnecessary and could have given a lot away, but overall, it was a tense episode with great production values and wonderful execution. The elimination itself was pretty non-eventful, but on that calibre, this episode did pretty well! Hayley’s tease at the end there was also very well pulled off and provided just the right amount of intrigue I need to get excited for tomorrow!

Oh, and don’t think I didn’t miss that sneaky Fitness First plug there.
