Previous episode: The Biggest Loser Australia: Singles Season Seven – Friday Night #1
Hell Hill is coming to a close, and the contestants are about to find out how they’re doing on the scales. But if you believe the promos, it’s not all going to go to plan! Will someone do the unthinkable and PUT ON WEIGHT?! Well, it’s happened before so it shouldn’t come as a surprise!
The contestants are still going up Hell Hill and Ryan is really trying to drag himself up the hill. It’s painful to watch. He gets there after a few slips, but it doesn’t seem as if it’s going to be enough to beat the girls. He had both the trainers yelling at him. Margie is doing really well. Ryan coming down is also a bit of a struggle. At the bottom, his team congratulate him and hug him. He just wants to collapse on the ground; not convinced he is proving that he is strong.
The girls are trying to keep their lead and they all seem to be holding up really well. In the end, they win the challenge with Lydia flipping the scroll over to 50. A clean sweep for the girls! They celebrate with a few cheers and a group hug. The boys want to finish the race however, and do not give up until they reach 50.
Opinion point: How important was it for the boys to finish their race?
Afterwards, Hayley congratulates the girls, and Luke, who ran up the hill 17 times. She tells the boys that they can redeem themselves in weigh in.
The next day is last chance training. Here, we get to see both the girls and the boys train. It’s a massive assault course involving row bikes, boxing, weights and rope pulls. Luke and Shannan begin to spar in the boxing ring, and it turns quite heated! Christ, what aggression! But he feels good about himself and will be going into the weigh in feeling confident.
The Commando gets tears out of Ryan at the weights when he says he feels he is ‘shit’. He then reveals more about his private life through some more flashbacks. He remembers how he thought he would never amount to anything. The Commando doesn’t like how Ryan keeps talking himself down. He feels that if he is eliminated, he will go back to how he was before.
Opinion point: Could someone like Ryan continue their weight loss in the real world?
To the girls, and Tiffiny and Michelle have them pushing cars! Christ! It’s a huge task, but it’s all for the weigh in, I suppose. I guess at least they don’t have to pull trains. If they aren’t pushing cars, they are on the front courtyard hammering tyres. Selena gets very defensive when she is pushed and pushed to push the car. Margie is helping her and still feels as if she doesn’t know what 100% means. She needs to give it, says Margie.
Tiffiny doesn’t think Margie is being fair, saying Selena was doing her best. But even Bek doesn’t feel as if she is doing enough, claiming she will be representing the white team at elimination if it comes to that. Hmm, is Bek now becoming a villain?
The boys, meanwhile, have finished their session, and are digging into some more orange food. We are reminded as to how they got into that situation in the first place. They all toast to the impending weigh in before we head to that dreaded room. This is a two team battle of the sexes. Can the girls triumph in this? They’ve triumphed in everything else! There’s a lot of pressure as always, according to Bek.
Graham will weigh in first today. He weighed 188.8kg. His current weight is…184.7, a weight LOSS of 4.1kg. They clap his effort, considering he has lost over 24kg. He says he is motivated to be a father. He wants to lose a lot more weight.
Next is Luke, who continues to prove confident. He did weigh 129.0kg. When he goes up to the scales, he keeps going on about his confident he is. Before a break, we also see obviously horrified contestant’s faces. He is obviously NOT going to pull the 5kg he was hoping for. His current weight is…126.8kg, a LOSS of 2.2kg. See, told ya! Lydia screams at him to keep it together as Luke fights back tears. He says it isn’t enough, and is surprised by the number. He doesn’t feel as if his diet was to blame. Shannan feels this is a test for him to come back stronger from.
Next up is Alex. He weighed 143.2kg. He now weighs…139.2kg, a LOSS of 4.0kg! A positive response. He was hoping for 7!
Next up is immune Hamish. How will his temptation binge affect him? He weighed 136.7kg. He now weighs…132.8kg. a LOSS of 3.9kg. He is very happy about this, considering his struggles this week.
Hayley addresses his and Michelle’s connection and he feels they started the contest as two shy people but have now found common interests. He steps down and gives Michelle a hug. AWWWWWWWWW!
Simon is next and he weighed 147.3kg. He now weighs…143.9kg, a LOSS of 3.4kg, a decent result!
The last to weigh in is Ryan. He weighed 214.2kg. He now weighs…206.1kg, a LOSS of 8.1kg, giving his team a weight loss total of 25.7kg. That’s a weight loss percentage of 2.68%! A great effort.
Ryan is shocked considering his rollercoaster week. Luke breaks down as he realises he has lost the least amount of weight and has done more work than Ryan.
Opinion point: Should Luke be annoyed that someone like Ryan has lost more weight than him?
After the break, it is the girls’ shot. They need to lose at least 20.6kg! The first to weigh in is Selena.
She weighed 149.5kg. She now weighs…145.4kg, a LOSS of 4.1kg, a nice effort. She is happy about that. She doesn’t sound too convinced, but Tiffiny tells her it is excellent. She feels as if they can’t put her up with that number.
Michelle is next. She weighed 97.5kg. She now weighs…93.8kg! That’s a LOSS of 3.7kg. Bek weighed 114.4kg. She now weighs…111.0kg, a LOSS of 3.4kg, bringing her team’s weight loss to 11.2kg.
Shannan feels as if there is a hell of a lot they still have to do and thinks they still have a shot. Lisa is next. She weighed 94.3kg. She now weighs 91.1kg, a LOSS of 3.2kg. At her weight, that is massive.
She now dwells on her relationship with Simon, saying he teaching her to trust again. Simon says his relationship with her is going great.
Kasey is next to weight in. She weighed 118.4kg. Her current weight is 115.9kg, a LOSS of 2.5kg, brining her team’s weight loss to 16.9kg.
Lydia is next to weigh in. She too feels confident. She weighed 124.1kg. Her weight is now…122.3kg, a loss of 1.8kg. Not as much as she wanted. It brings her team’s total to 18.7kg.
She feels the diet is to blame; being too carb-rich. Michelle confirms all the girls are on the same diet, but due to her good training, it has to be her nutrition.
Margie now has to lose at least 1.9kg. She’s been eating the same as Lydia, so she is worried about herself.
After the break, it’s Margie’s turn to weigh in. She previously weighed 141.7kg. She now weighs 136.3kg, a loss of 5.4kg! Add the 2kg advantage they all won at Hell Hill, and say Margie got 7.4kg, which brings her total to 7.4kg, and her team’s total to 26.1kg of weight LOSS!
The girls therefore have a winning 3.11% WLP! The boys will now face elimination! And guess what, Margie is this week’s Biggest Loser! I feel so good for her, despite her somewhat shifty attitude.
The boys are not happy. The Commando is NOT happy. He says they have to find it within themselves to do some work! This is the third time the black team have fallen below the yellow line.
The boys will have to choose two contestants to face elimination, with the girls voting. Hamish, with immunity, must not be chosen. According to Shannan, it was decided that the person with the lowest percentage will go up. That means Graham and Ryan will be heading up. The blue team’s decision was put up to the fact that no one wants to see Luke goes home. They all ask Ryan if he has accepted the risk that he faces, but he has.
With that, the boys prepare for elimination.
Opinion point: Do Graham and Ryan deserve to be up for elimination?
To the elimination, and the girls take their seat. Hayley welcomes them and debriefs the girls on their amazing effort this week.
She then introduces the two nominees to them.
Hayley asks Michelle how she feels about the choices. Michelle is surprised by Graham’s nomination, but doesn’t know who else would fit the chair.
Ryan actually has the highest weight loss percentage of any of the boys and justifies his place in the bottom two by saying that Luke did hard work despite his low weight loss number. To him, it was about honour.
He doesn’t know how he will do on the outside, and feels he may eat badly and not exercise. He bluntly tells them that in five years, they may be attending his funeral. Graham then further explains his nomination.
The two give their final pleas before votes are cast.
Opinion point: Who would you send home?
After the break, the votes are read out. Michelle is first. She voted with her heart and feels one contestant has competed with dignity and honour and has worked hard through thick and thin. With that, she votes for Ryan.
Margie is next. She feels the decision is clear cut. She votes for Ryan to leave. Brutal.
Bek is next and again, her reasoning is the same. She too votes for Ryan. He now needs only one more vote.
Lydia is next, and after wishing both men luck, she votes Ryan out. With that, Ryan Preuss is eliminated.
Ryan doesn’t think this elimination is surprising, admitting he wouldn’t vote for Graham. He breaks down in what is a sad scene. Selena speaks up, calling Ryan a strong man. Margie also tells him to believe in himself. She wants to stay in contact with him so she can help him. It helps that they live in the same state.
Ryan lists his goals for life post-Biggest Loser and Margie gives him some advice- shave his beard!
With that, Ryan says goodbye to his fellow contestants, and leaves.
Four weeks later, he is training one to two hours a day and has personal training four days a week.
He is now down to 195kg and wants to get to 150kg by finale.
The episode ends, and I guess the best thing about it was that weigh in. I loved how the advertisements were put between the two team’s weigh in. I also loved how we were able to see each team’s training session as it gives off a bit of balance.
In fact, the only criticism I have is in those damn predictable cutaways. They couldn’t have been any more suggestive than when Luke was heading up to his weigh in.
But it was a wonderful and suspenseful episode with a somewhat controversial elimination which should prove to be a talking point in days to come.
