Super Rugby set to kick off for 2012 on Fox Sports this weekend

The world’s toughest provincial rugby competition launches its biggest season ever with Super Rugby, for the first time, to fill the calendar from February through to August, LIVE and only on Australia’s Sports Leader.

Fresh off a record-breaking Rugby World Cup 2011, FOX SPORTS returns to the battlefields of the southern hemisphere this week to embark on its longest Super Rugby campaign on record.

The first of 21 rounds in the 2012 FXPro Super Rugby season kicks off on Friday when New Zealand rivals the Blues and Crusaders meet in the season opener at 5.00pm AEDT, followed by the first all-Aussie derby of the year when the Brumbies host the Western Force at 7.30pm AEDT on FOX SPORTS 3HD & FOX SPORTS 3.

Then on Saturday night, the action continues when one of the oldest and fiercest rivalries in Australian sport is reignited when the New South Wales Waratahs host the defending champion Queensland Reds – returning from their fairy-tale 2011 season which culminated in their maiden Super Rugby title.

LIVE coverage of one of the season’s most anticipated showdowns will begin at 7.30pm AEDT on FOX SPORTS 3HD & FOX SPORTS 3.

FOX SPORTS will once again provide fans with unparalleled access to the tournament, with LIVE and EXCLUSIVE coverage of all 125 matches in High Definition and delivered by the country’s most recognised and respected rugby commentary team.

The nation’s number one rugby commentator Greg Clark will once again spearhead the FOX SPORTS coverage in his 16th season of Super Rugby, alongside a renowned team of experts boasting a combined 210 Wallabies Test caps in Phil Kearns, Tim Horan, Brendan Cannon, Greg Martin and Rod Kafer.

Fans will see more of the rugby they want in 2012, with 40 regular season matches being played in Australian time zones and 20 local derbies spread over the course of the season.

Flagship magazine show The Rugby Club will make its 2012 debut this Thursday 23 February and will screen at 8.30pm each Thursday night throughout the season, while fans can also relive the action from every round on Super Rugby Extra Time each Monday night at 7.30pm.

In addition to LIVE and UNINTERRUPTED television coverage of Super Rugby, FOX SPORTS will provide exclusive online content including a purpose-built match centre featuring live scores, video highlights and statistics for each match.

The FOX SPORTS commentary team will also be online regularly to provide hard-hitting opinion on the game’s biggest issues.

FOX SPORTS’ LIVE, EXCLUSIVE and UNINTERRUPTED coverage of the 2012 FXPro Super Rugby season is available to FOXTEL and AUSTAR sports subscribers. Super Rugby news and highlights feature daily throughout the season on FOX SPORTS News.
