The Voice – The Star Coaches Arrive

All four international star coaches – Seal, Keith Urban, Delta Goodrem and Joel Madden – have now arrived in Sydney to commence production for season one of the Australian version of The Voice on the Nine Network.

The Voice Australia will feature the same innovative format as its American counterpart, a ratings smash hit with over 37 million viewers for the premiere of season two.

Michael Healy, the Nine Network’s Director of Television, said: “To secure such world-class coaches has been a coup for this show and the network. The mix of talent and unique format will, we truly believe, be a captivating experience for our viewers.”

There will be three stages of competition in The Voice: the Blind Auditions, the Battle phase, and the Live performance shows revealing Australia’s very best undiscovered artists.

During the blind auditions, if a star coach is impressed they push a button to select that artist for their team of competitors. At this point the coach’s chair will swivel so they can face the artist they have selected. If more than one coach selects a vocalist, the power shifts to the artist, who may choose which coach to work with throughout the competition. An artist is eliminated if not been chosen by one of the coaches.

Julie Ward, Director of Entertainment SHINE Australia, said: “There is something magnetic about this format. It has attracted the highest quality of professionals to be our coaches and they are genuinely passionate about giving something back to a new generation of talent.”

The coaches have all achieved huge success, with multiple Grammy Awards for soul singer Seal and country music star Keith Urban, million-selling number one singles for Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden, and Delta Goodrem acclaimed as Australia’s highest selling female artist of the decade. Host Darren McMullen has also had success in his own right with the UK series The Magicians and Minute To Win It, and the US series Love In The Wild.

Over the next week the four coaches will hear more than singers perform in a bid to secure a life-changing spot on one of the star teams.

“Just as we have attracted great coaches, we have amazing singers who see this as more than a reality TV show. This isn’t a format for wannabes and shower singers. The majority of our artists are pursuing music as a career path. Great singers with great songs, every show will be a concert,” Julie Ward said.

Once the teams are set the battle is on. The coaches will be dedicated to developing their artists, giving them advice and sharing the secrets of their success. During the battle rounds, the coaches will pit two of their own team members against each other by singing a duet for the studio audience.

The Voice is an innovative vocal competition developed by Dutch media company TALPA and modelled after the top-rated vocal talent discovery show, The Voice of Holland. It is shown in over 50 countries. The American series has been the biggest ratings hit for NBC post-Super Bowl since Friends in 2004.

The Voice, a co-production between SHINE Australia and TALPA, will be filmed at Fox Studios in Sydney and seen on the Nine Network in the coming months.
