Country Town Rescue

8:00pm – Tuesday, April 3 on ABC1

Country Town Rescue is the compelling story of how ordinary Australians come together to save the small rural town of Trundle, whose falling population threatens its very existence.

But Trundle isn’t going down without a fight. Town members have heard about a scheme that just might work for them. The idea is simple. Rent out some of the abandoned farmhouses for just a dollar a week and attract new families to the town. They call it ‘Trundle Tree Change’.

Filmed over twelve months, this series follows five families who ‘up sticks’ with their kids and move to Trundle. They are welcomed by a passionate group of locals determined to see the small town not only survive but prosper.

As the episode opens Donna Roberts and her kids arrive to find a surprise. The Trundle committee has organised a working bee to clean up the old farmhouses, so Donna arrives to a sparkling clean home and a welcome by its owner Dol Wright.

Down the road, the Elemams are coming to terms with life in the bush, including finding a water tank full of dead frogs. For the Moores, the tree change is an opportunity to introduce their kids to the joys of the country, but first they have to build a new veranda. For the Guerkes their veranda is creating activity for all the wrong reasons, the boards are rotten, and the Guerke’s kids have broken many of them. Dan’s landlord isn’t happy and has demanded that Dan replace the boards – in Dan’s words the Trundle Tree change ‘is turning into a nightmare on ‘Elm street’.
