GALLIPOLI FROM ABOVE – The Untold Story of the Gallipoli Landing

WORLD PREMIERE – Wednesday, April 25 at 7.30pm AEST – Exclusive to The History Channel

This Anzac Day, Wednesday, April 25 at 7.30pm AEST, The History Channel will premiere GALLIPOLI FROM ABOVE, a revealing new special that dispels many of the myths about the Gallipoli landing.Hosted by Hugh Dolan, author of the book 36 Days: The Untold Story of the Gallipoli Landings upon which the documentary is based, this one-hour special overturns many of the beliefs about the Gallipoli landing on April 25, 1915 – namely that the Australians landed at dawn, on the wrong beach, with little knowledge of the Turkish defences – and that they were lead by incompetent British officers.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

In reality, the Australians ran their own show, using aerial intelligence, emerging technology and innovative tactics to land 20,000 troops on a heavily defended and precipitous shoreline.

They used an aircraft carrier and a squadron of biplanes to gather detailed intelligence on the deployment of the Turkish defenders and developed a plan for the landing that avoided significant casualties.

GALLIPOLI FROM ABOVE follows the Australian officers who planned the landing at Anzac Cove and the aircrew who brought back the much-needed information on which those plans were based.

The ANZACS utilised every piece of technology they could get their hands on and made a detailed plan to deal with the Turkish defences. As a result, the Australians came ashore with minor casualties. In contrast the English officers ignored the aerial intelligence and their men paid a terrible price.

Almost 100 years since the landing, GALLIPOLI FROM ABOVE sets out to change the way Australians think about Gallipoli, forever.

GALLIPOLI FROM ABOVE is written by award-winning writer/director Wain Fimeri. It is produced by John Moore Productions for The History Channel.
